Michael Essien, Petr Cech and Wayne Bridge have all recently or are about to sign new contracts at Chelsea which will keep them at Stamford Bridge to 2013. The new deals send out a message to potential suitors to their signatures (such as a certain Portuguese in Milan!) and give new manager Scolari further assurances which help enable his planning for the squad.
Michael Essien, 25, has agreed a new reported £20million, £80,000 a week five-year contract with Chelsea even though the Ghana midfielder signed a five-year contract only 18 months ago.

“Michael is delighted with the new deal. It’s true that as soon as Jose Mourinho took over at Inter he made it clear he wanted Michael in Milan. But a new deal had almost already been agreed with Chelsea.”

Essien himself commented

"I am really pleased to sign a new contract with Chelsea."

"I came here to stay longer, I like the team and I love the fans and I think we have got a great squad. I did not consider any other options, I love playing for Chelsea."

Petr Cech, 26, has signed a new five-year contract which also keeps him at Stamford Bridge until 2013.Cech has played a total of 166 games in all competitions - 90 of those clean sheets!

”It is an honour to be at a club like Chelsea and I am very happy to have renewed my contract with them.” said Cech.

“Chelsea has grown in my heart, not just because of my team-mates and all the people that work for the club but also because of their fantastic fans.”

“I gave my first interview when I arrived at Chelsea in 2004 and I had said that it had been my dream to play for one of the best clubs in the world and in the best league in the world - this came true and I am very pleased my dream will last.”

“Personally I have to say I cannot wait for the new season to start”

”I am confident that it will be a very successful season for all of us.”

Cech was awarded with the Barclays Premiership Golden Gloves in 2005 as he set a new record for not conceding a goal in 1,024 minutes and for the most clean sheets (21) in a single Premier League season.

He was voted UEFA's Most Valuable Goalkeeper in the 2005-06 season, as well as being named the IFFHS (International Federation of Football History & Statistics) World's Best Goalkeeper in 2005.

Scolari was also very pleased: "I am delighted that Petr has signed a new contract.”

"In my view he is the best goalkeeper in the world, so I am very pleased that he will remain with me at Chelsea."

Chief executive Peter Kenyon added further comments:

"I think everybody agrees with Felipe's assessment that Petr is the best goalkeeper in the world so naturally we are very happy he has committed his long term future to us.”

“He has been a key player in the club's success in the last four years and he has also shown himself throughout this time to be a top professional and is a great ambassador for the club on and off the field.”

Wayne Bridge, England

Finally, with the world’s best left back in Ashley Cole at Chelsea it is of vital importance that we keep one of the best alternatives to provide vital cover for this position.

Both Newcastle and Portsmouth had shown interest in Wayne Bridge but the English defender has signed a new four-year deal.

Scolari:

“I am very pleased for Wayne that he has committed his future to Chelsea.”

"I have been here only a few days but I have seen that he is one of the best professionals at the club. I very much like his playing style."

Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon added:

"We are delighted that Wayne has committed himself to Chelsea for the next four years. He is a key member of our squad and is relishing the challenge of the arrival of a new manager.”

"We are fortunate at Chelsea that we have the two best left-backs in England and it is a source of pride for us.”

"Wayne's new deal also underlines the club's commitment to maintaining a strong English core to our squad."

I wonder if both Drogba and Lampard will also assure their own futures at the club?
