After Phil Browns dismissal from Derby County, Nigel Clough has been linked with the job. Clough has turned down higher job offers before as he wants to stay in the area. So will this provide the perfect opportunity for him to leave?
It seemed likely that Nigel Clough would be linked with the job as soon as Phil Brown was sacked and yes it has happened. Whether there is any truth in these links is doubtful. Clough has always been loyal to Burton. Hes got a solid friendship with the Chairman and is enjoying his time at the club in the new stadium.
Its been one of Cloughs most successful seasons with Burton - most notably for taking them to the 3rd round of the FA Cup and earning a draw against Man Utd to take them back to Old Trafford. And things are looking good in the league aswell. The Brewers continue to climb closing in on the playoffs.
Earlier in the season fans were calling for the head of Clough as he was booed at every game while the Brewers struggled and looked sure for the drop. But now Clough has been praised a hero for how he has turned around this Albion side and putting them well and truly on the map after a heroic cup run.
He has also been linked with the Leicester City job but this seems even more unlikely. Gudjon Thordarson seems a much stronger candidate for the role.
For now Brewers fans will keep faith in Cloughs loyalty. With a definite chance to be among the playoffs next season, if not this season.
