Burnley 2 Fulham 1

The Clarets continued their climb away from the relegation zone on a day the footballing gods smiled on Turf Moor to help bring another priceless victory in the survival battle.

Burnley were aided by two deflected own-goals as they made it three successive Premier League wins to leave Fulham in even deeper trouble in the bottom three.

It might have been rough justice on the Cottagers, who are still without an away this season.

But Sean Dyche’s side arguably made their own luck with the way they responded to go behind to a stunning early strike from Andre Schurrle to win from a losing position for the second league game in a row.

And when the going got tough after the break, they showed the resolve and commitment to see the game out for a fourth straight win in all competitions and collect the points which lifted them a further place up the table into 15th spot.

The first meeting between the two sides at the end of August had produced six goals and there could easily have been the same again with the tone set inside a frenetic opening quarter which yielded half that tally.

Schurrle, who had scored one of the goals in Fulham’s 4-2 win at Craven Cottage, drew first blood with a stunning strike after just two minutes.

The German World Cup winner showed a great touch to control a long ball from the back from Denis Odoi before sending an angled dipping volley over Tom Heaton and into the top corner off the underside of the bar.

That first half display from McNeil! WOW! What an exciting prospect we have there! Loved it when he sat the fullback down on his @#$%&!

Otherwise - lucky 3 points - but I'll take 'em.

Shouldn't that read Bfc 0 Fulham 3 ☺Great 3 points and first half. I don't know what it is about SD and substitutes but why sit under the cosy for 30 minutes without changing the system? Wood off Defour on and 4-4-1-1 or 4-5-1 and Fulham were dead.

Just watched the highlights, great goal by Schurle, guys in the studio saying Hendrick should have been credited with the first ‘og’ as his shot was on target. Looked like one of those games where it could have been a home win, draw, or away win, with Fulham looking the stronger in the second half, but hey ho, three more points for the Clarets.

3 points is 3 points it doesn't matter how you get them. It is far more important that we are beating the bottom teams. Points against the top teams are the cream

Dyche's inability to make changes when under the cosh revealed again. I just don't think he knows how to react.

Defend, hang on and hope for the best seems to be the only tactic. And then post-match say we found another way to win, as if its a virtue.

McNeil vanished int second half from the onset and a change should have been made. Barnes can play wide left in his place and bring Defour on. Wood was a passenger 90% of the game.
