Bournemouth 1 Burnley 2

November 29 2017

Burnley put a dampener on former manager Eddie Howe’s 40th-birthday celebrations as goals from Chris Wood and Robbie Brady gave the Clarets a first win at Bournemouth since 2000.

The goals – either side of half time – also set more important landmarks as the Clarets secured a fourth away win in the top flight for the first time since the 1974/75 season.

With 14 points now earned away from Turf Moor, Sean Dyche’s side also equalled the best tally of away points a Burnley side has ever managed in the Premier League. And it’s still November.

Bournemouth pulled a goal back through Josh King with 11 minutes to go.

But rock-solid Burnley never looked like making another top-notch performance deliver anything less than the three points which lifted them up to sixth place in the table.

For the first time this season the Clarets changed their back four as Matt Lowton’s ever-present record was ended by injury, meaning a Premier League debut for the club for Phil Bardsley.

And the former Manchester United and Stoke City – who played Championship football for the Clarets during a loan spell as far back as 2006 – was instrumental in a superb start from the visitors.

He forced the fourth-minute corner which was then repeated on the opposite flank and ended with Wood – back in the starting line-up - heading onto the top of the crossbar after Ben Mee had headed back across goal.

Bardsley then delivered an excellent cross which by-passed Robbie Brady but was met by Wood with a downward header which bounced up towards the roof of the net before Asmir Begovic made a flying save.

Bournemouth hadn’t conceded a goal in their previous three matches in collecting seven points from a possible nine to continue their recovery from a poor start to the season.

Now from a ‘neutral point of view’ this was a very good win, away, midweek to a plucky wee team , I thought maybe a draw, but an away win, is another very good win.
