Sunderland 0-0 Burnley Burnley are still to win away from home this season but put another important point on the board thanks to another Stadium of Light stalemate.

The two sides had drawn 0-0 here in the FA Cup in January before Burnley progressed in the replay to record a second win of the season over the Black Cats.

There was to be no hat-trick but in a game of greater significance than the third-round cup encounter, the Clarets remained unbeaten against the Premier League’s bottom club and moved a point further away from the relegation places going into the international break.
Burnley’s first-half performance suggested the long overdue first away success would finally come as they threatened to plunge the Wearsiders into even greater relegation trouble.
But the Clarets were guilty of wasteful finishing and were then grateful themselves to goalkeeper Tom Heaton and Sunderland’s own lack of conviction in front of goal as the roles were reversed after the break to make it honours even.
The opening half-hour was one of almost total domination by the Clarets – but crucially they couldn’t make it count.
Sean Dyche’s men set the tone from the start and didn’t let up as they virtually camped in the Sunderland half
And when they weren’t probing around the home penalty area, they were looking to spring a counter-attack by releasing Andre Gray with an early ball forward.
The hard-running Gray constantly stretched a Sunderland back line missing the injured Lamine Kone, creating the first opening for Ashley Barnes for an effort the striker was unable to lift over stranded goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.
But the best chance for Burnley to get something to show for their superiority fell George Boyd’s way with 10 minutes gone.

A point away was a good one, but we could have had so much more, Crosses into the box are shocking, and the money sat on the bench, well that astounds me. Shots are wayward and the play in the final 3rd is lacking. I hate to criticise especially with our position but this was yet another very poor performance, it is a good job they were as bad as us, that Jones fella must be distraught tonight, how did he miss that chance?

Anyways onwards and upwards, Spurs up next and we could just spring a surprise there.

It's that dire I didn't even search for anything on the internet, nor listen on the radio. I watched the racing on ITV, then the Rugby. The missus told me they'd made a draw around ten past five, I can't say I was much bothered one way or the other. I don't enjoy the PL and I'm rapidly losing interest.

I think we will stay up... but then the problems start all over again... who knows we may then scrape another season int top Division... but will folks decide they've had enough of seeing whats on offer... dogged plodders..dull performances... the mistrust of players like Defour, lack of bravery when it comes to making subs... the play-safe, play for a draw mentality that cripples them away from home.

Not sure there are problems. It will depend if we decide to play that $25M worth of talent currently sitting on our bench, or keep Arfield and Boyd playing defensive wingers. I am OK doing it now as it appears to be keeping us up but...

If we stay up, then the summer will be interesting - a full pre-season with that aforementioned talent, plus another bucket load of cash in the dry powder store to splash on more talent....if Arfield and Boyd do start the first game of next season in the PL with us - then yes - I would agree, we have problems.

I agree with DT, we may well stay up but there are problems. Yesterday we played with 10 of our Championship team plus Hendrick and I suspect even he wouldn't have been playing had Marney been fit. So we seem to have spent £30m plus on players Dyche doesn't think are good enough for the PL, he prefers his Championship team.

So what happens in summer, Joey will be gone I presume, so will Defour and Keane, Gray doesn't look up to this level, and despite my admiration for Dyche his recent signings are worrying. There's going to be a lot of work to do, this Championship team needs a big overhaul and the start Dyche has made on that this year is disappointing to put it mildly.
