Alastair Campbell Summarises The Bolton Game
By Alastair Campbell
January 27 2010
Football can be so, so painful, and the pain equation so complicated. The most important element of the equation, most would agree, is the Result. But dashed Expectation after days of mounting Excitement comes not far behind. Miles travelled is worth throwing in as a factor.

Add the pumping up of the usual desire to win by feelings of Betrayal, and you have the makings of one very big dose of the P stuff on a long journey home.

So, to sum up my last 24 hours for any mathematical minds out there:

R(1-0)+2Ex420m+B = 1P

Anyone who read the
blog on my website yesterday would know that in terms of excitement and expectation, last night's match at Bolton was up there with Manchester United at home, Blackburn away, and not far behind the play-off final at Wembley, in terms of what it meant to Burnley fans.

I had a few meetings in London in the morning, but it was one of those days when you just wanted to get on the road, get to the ground, and hear the ref get the match under way.

Any football fan will know the reason for the added spice, namely
Owen Coyle's departure from Burnley to Bolton, and the widespread feeling that he had left us in the lurch for ultimately selfish reasons which took no account of the possible impact on the club he was leaving.

"whilst nobody really had a bad game"

Jesus this is spin at its worst (or would it be best?)

He must have seen a different second half than the rest of us. That was the worst 45 mins football I have seen from any two sides since Noah
