It is 26 years since Brian left the Turf as a player, since then he has had management experience at Grimsby, Scunthorpe United and Sheffield Wednesday. He has been given a 2 and a half year contract, and brings in his old assitant manager from his Scunthorpe and Wednesday days Russ Wilcox, Graham Alexander has also been moved up to player/coach. Brian had three interviews and was offered the job over Sean O'Driscoll the current Doncaster manager, apparently compensation could not be agreed between the two clubs for Sean, so it was Brian who was left in pole position and offered the contract. One thing is for sure that the hiring of a new manager has been a topic of great interest across all the Clarets messageboards, with many posters stating their preferences for a successor to Owen Coyle, among their favourites to name just a few, have been names such as Alan Curbishley, Steve Coppell, Steve Clarke, Lee Clark, Simon Grayson and Sean O'Driscoll. Barry Kilby was in a no win situation with whoever he appointed as there had been so many different favourites, but in the end Barry has chosen Brian as he believes he can do the job in hand, that is the one of keeping Burnley in the Premiership, whether this can be achieved we will have to wait and see. One thing is for sure is that everyone at the club needs our support going forward starting this weekend at Old Trafford, so come on Clarets get behind the Club, the board, the manager and the players, then have never needed your support more than than now. Brian Laws has commented today on the club website about the job in hand in the next chapter in Burnley's history, and I for one having read his thoughts am fully behind him in his quest for success.
