Alex McLeish made some changes for this tie, Jordan Mutch was in the starting line up after his loan spell away at Watford and Ben Foster was rested, along with Stephen Carr, giving Taylor and Parnaby a chance on the pitch. There were seven changes made altogether, Jiranek, Murphy, Jean Beausejour and Zigic all started.
Millwall started well, when Henry almost gave them an early lead in the 4th minute when he hit a hard drive from a central position that went just wide of Blues right-hand post. It was Henry again in the tenth minute with a corner that found Shittu's head but Taylor kept control and managed to keep the ball out.
It was the 17th minute when Blues took the lead, courtesy of Matt Derbyshire who received the ball from Beausejour and chipped the ball from 14 yards into the corner of the goal. Not even ten minutes later, Derbyshire was put down by Tony Craig at the edge of the box giving Blues a chance to widen their lead, Murphy took, and scored leaving Blues 2-0 up. A Craig Gardner free-kick into the area found Derbyshire who spun and aimed low, but it was saved.
With only a few minutes left of the first half, Millwall's Henry hit a lovely ball that looked on target, but ended up over the bar. Millwall were starting to retaliate and made it clear they were not about to give up just yet. A goal from Morison with 5 minutes to go was called as offside. With seconds left the Blues got another goal, again thanks to Derbyshire, leaving a 3-0 score at half time.
An apparent foul by Dann on Harris inside the box, left Morison stepping up to take the penalty and he struck it hard but it was well saved by Taylor. Taylor had his work cut out for the next couple of minutes as firstly, Henry hit a shot that had to be cleared off the line, eventually by Dann, and then Harris hit the ball over the bar.
The Lions made 2 changes, bringing on Danny Schofield and Kevin Lisbie for Craig and Harris, just before Keith Fahey was brought on the replace Hleb.
with 20 minutes left Derbyshire was replaced by Kevin Phillips and seconds later McLeish made his final change when Cameron Jerome replaced Zigic.
Jerome's first touch of the game was receiving a cross from Fahey and using his head to send the ball straight past Forde's hand and in at the near post. 4-0 to Blues.
In the closing stages Gardner fancied his chances, at 12 yards, he sent the ball just past the right hand post. Beausejour, tried in the final minute and was extremely unlucky to have missed.
Millwall's managed a last minute goal courtesy of Schofield, but it was too late. Final score 4-1 Blues.
