After yesterdays game i am filled with confidence that our return to the premiership is eminent as 24,238 people watched Birmingham's first game of the season against Colchester.
It was a heated affair when these two sides met for the first time in the league as City looked to start the season on a high . Forssell had the best chance early on when he chested the ball and volleyed from a tight angle to hit the side netting which was met with a roar from the Birmingham fans in the opposite stand. Campbell scored his first goal in Blues colours on 30 minutes as he sneaked behind the Colchester defence to head home from 6 yards from a N'Gotty cross . The rest of the half was of few chances with neither side scoring and the half time whistle going.

HT score 1-0

In the second half Birmingham were under the Koch abit and Colchester made there dominance count on 51 minutes when Richard Garcia hammered home in the area to leave Maik Taylor looking stunned . Birmingham had to react and they did do in bringing on the two Arsenal youths in Bendtner and Larsson . 9 minutes later Jerome was bought on for his debut of which lasted all of 3 minutes , after a few hard tackles and his adrenaline going he whacked a elbow in the opponents face . The sighs were heard around ST Andrews . But the Birmingham faithful were stunned when debutant Bendtner took a delightful first touch and a placed shot into the back of the net. Birmingham held on for the full 3 points despite a spirited fightback from Colchester .
