Barnsley 2 – 2 Bolton

By Red Army
April 16 2018

Barnsley ensured that their survival hopes remain in their own hands with this 2 – 2 draw with Bolton at Oakwell.

However, this was really a must win game for the reds at home to relegation rivals before three away games in our remaining four fixtures.

The game was controversial to say the least with the referee awarding a Bolton penalty for jack all and then failing to produce a red card in the afterwards despite McBurnie making the most of the ‘head butt’.

A poor second goal as well as Yiadom cleared when Davies should have been claiming. I can only assume that Davies either didn’t shout or shouted far too late so the defender did what he had to do.

Man of the match Gary Gardener was on the score sheet again as was McBurnie with his standard goal.

No central midfield player on the bench meant that Morais had to revert to 4-4-2 when Potts was injured when we really needed to keep three in central midfield to combat the Bolton onslaught when we were 1 – 0 up.

I would have personally looked to bring one of the wingers on and moved Hammill inside to be one of the three central players but maybe he felt going for the kill and getting a second goal was the best policy.

Leeds away next for the reds and we really need a win against our old boss Paul Heckingbottom in this one.
