Deadline Day Deals

So an exciting transfer deadline day saw incomings and outgoings at Oakwell as well as some movement by former reds.

In came 21 year old striker Oliver McBurnie from Swansea City along with 25 year old midfielder Gary Gardner from Aston Villa.

Gardner will now join Hammill as one of the Granddads of the squad, a squad which now has at least two players competing for every position, more in some places and whilst it doesn’t have much Championship experience in it, it does have that healthy competition for places to keep every player pushing and striving to improve.

Out of the door wen Alex Mowatt who went to League One Oxford on a season long loan.

Mowatt just hasn’t been able to force his way in to the side and whilst I’m not surprised he has gone on loan, I am surprised it is for the full season.

I was expecting that he would be sent out until January and then they would reassess the situation but the lad needs games and hopefully he can come back to us ready for the first team in the way Moncur did last season.

Other interesting news regarding former reds sees Luke Steele join Bristol City following three seasons in Greece.

The most interesting deal of the day for me was seeing Sam Winnall go to Derby and Jacob Butterfield go from Derby to Sheffield Wednesday. Why Wednesday signed Winnall in the first place is beyond me.
