Barnsley 2 – 1 Nottingham Forest

By Red Army
August 16 2017

Barnsley got off the work with a 2 – 1 home victory over a very good Nottingham Forest side.

A thrilling game saw the reds start well again and their dominance was converted in to an early first half lead as Pearson headed home whilst Bradshaw was on the line ready to pounce if required.

Forest then began to come in to the game more and for the remainder of the first half and the majority of the second half they were the dominant team who seemed more likely to score.

They indeed did that as they made it 1 – 1 in the first half and reds fans began to fear a repeat of Saturday was on the cards.

Forest came out firing in the second half as the reds hung on as Forest missed chances throughout.

Hedges however scored another beauty to give Barnsley a 2 – 1 lead which they were able to hold on to as they defended in numbers and managed to block and clear almost everything that Forest threw at them.

It was a much needed three points for the reds and there were encouraging signs and performances for the season ahead.

Hammill was named man of the match and in the two home games so far this season, he has already performed better than he did at any point during last season, in my opinion anyway.

The defence looked a lot more solid and Jackson looks a lot better than he did when he played last season, even if he was one of the culprits for the Forest goal.

The centre of midfield is a bit of a worry for me at the moment. Williams looks good but seems to fade in the second half. Moncur was poor last night. And Potts just doesn’t look at Championship pace at all yet. At the moment he is a passenger and the game passes him by. Hopefully he just needs time to adjust but I would certainly be looking to make changes in that area for Saturday with Potts certain to go and Moncur possibly as well, particularly with the number of central midfielders we have at the club.

Sheff Utd away on Saturday and we really need to come away from there with a victory. They have lost two on the bounce now and are feeling sorry for themselves about the Middlesbrough offside goal so hopefully we can kick them whilst they’re down and inflict more pain on them.
