Aston Villa v Barnsley
The super reds face a trip to Villa Park where they could come face to face with old boys Conor Hourihane and James Bree.
Both left the reds for Aston Villa during the January transfer window and I for one wish them all the best in their Aston Villa careers, just not tonight obviously.
Hourihane is likely to start for Villa but Bree is a doubt with an ankle injury that kept him out of their 1 – 0 defeat to Ipswich.
Villa could recall superstar Jack Grealish who is available again following a one match ban after receiving his marching orders at Nottingham Forest earlier this month.
Villa will however be without Mile Jedinak and Gabby Agbonlahor.
Barnsley are likely to be without main man Josh Scowen who suffered an ankle injury in the excellent 0 – 0 draw at Reading at the weekend.
George Moncur is expected to come in for Scowen as Alex Mowatt is still suspended following his sending off on debut.
This season’s 1 – 1 draw at Oakwell was the first meeting between the two sides since Ashley Ward struck to earn Barnsley a 1 – 0 win at Villa Park in March 1998. That remains Barnsley’s only league victory over Villa in 13 meetings.
Jordan Ayew and Sam Winnall found the net in the 1 – 1 draw in September. Both have since moved on with Ayew going to Swansea on loan and Winnall obviously joining local rivals Sheffield Wednesday.
Villa are currently in a bad run of form having only picked up one point so far in 2017. If anyone can help teams that are in runs like that then it’s certainly Barnsley.
The reds have drawn their last two games 0 – 0. The last time they had three goalless draws in a row was in 1912, the season that they won the FA cup.
Reds fans lets have your predictions for this one. I’m going for 1 – 1 draw.
