Doug Ellis this evening spoke of his delight at securing the services of David O'Leary as the new Villa boss. And, despite massive interest in the post,
the Villa chairman insisted the former Leeds boss had always been the No1 choice to succeed Graham Taylor.

In a Villa World exclusive interview, Ellis told www.avfc.co.uk: "I'm absolutely delighted. We've taken the best part of a week looking at the pros and cons of different prospective managers.

"We've had 35 applications from professionals and a lot of them were managers with experience. "But we had no doubt. Our first choice was David O'Leary and he signed this afternoon. We're all absolutely delighted.

"He's proven it in the past, he's a top-class manager and I think our supporters will go along with me in thinking we have made the best choice."

Echo that last paragraph, yes or Martin O'Neill Doug. Shame the fans still don't want you or the board there isn't it.

Great choice of manager, now make two in one day and walk away with some pride!
