Hogganfield 1-8 AS Airdrie

Hogganfield 1-8 AS Airdrie

23/5/2009

Airdrie recorded there best competitive result on Saturday at Haghill with an impressive passing display.

Airdrie almost got off to a perfect start with the home defence presenting the ball to Kenny Pardoe straight from kick off but nothing came of it. it was Hogganfield who took the lead shortly after as they picked the ball up on the left and the danger man cut infield and unleashed a superb shot high past capatain for the day Rowan in the Airdrie goal. Airdrie got back into the game with an equaliser from Shaw who slammed the ball in at the back post after the keeper parried Gray's original effort. Shaw was again the creator for Airdrie's second as he found space in the box his centre hit a home players leg and deflected past the keeper. Airdrie wrapped up the first half with a 25 yard free kick from Kenny Pardoe leaving the keeper clutching fresh air.

Scott Heatherington replaced Leishman at half time, Ross Graham moving to full back and Kenny Pardoe sitting in midfield. This gave Airdrie a platform to go on and take controll of the game. After an early spell from the home side Airdrie put the game to bed with the goal of the game. Ross Graham took a quick free kick with a short ball to kenny Pardoe he played in Brady who slid a neat pass behind the defender for Shaw to run on to, Shaw slid the ball actross the goal and Gray was on hand for an easy finish a couple of yards out. Airdrie were in complete controll by now and lindsay got in on the scoring when he slammed home from the edge of the area. Gray added his second after a queue of Airdrie players waited on Shaw's cross, Brady got the effort in which the keeper parried but Gray fired home the second oppertunity. Scott Lindsay added his second with a neat side step in the box he fired a low left foot drive into the bottom corner. Shaw finished the scoring and sealed a man of the match display with a fine run towards the Hogganfield goal his shot spilled into the goal by the home keeper.

A pleasing all round display and with one home match remaining 5th place could be achievable which given the competitive nature of the league this year and our poor winter run would mark a decent end to a trying season.
