Greenhills 0-2 AS Airdrie
2 second half goals from ian shaw gave airdrie a deserved victory against a fine greenhills team challenging for the title
work and injuries forced the manager into 3 changes from last week with cooper, lindsay and gray in for stewart,r graham and edgar
the first half saw airdrie more than hold their own with the back 4 keeping a good line and a tactical ploy defending corners that gave the home team problems at the back.one real effort from greenhills saw rowan pull off a good save from donnelly.for airdrie kenny went close with an effort and ian shaw had a fine run by 3 players that was only ended by a good challenge at the edge of the box.dynamo lost star man hughes to injury after 25 minutes then scott was lucky to escape with a booking after a crude challenge on the number 11.ht 0-0
5 minutes into the second half airdrie put s graham on for the injured scott but the game continued in much the same way as the first half although the home team was starting to put some pressure on.a big moment in the game happened after 65 when dynamo should have taken the lead but s graham had a fine block on the line.moments later fine play from capaldi saw him cut through 2 challenges then fire a shot that the keeper could only parry and shaw knocked the ball into the net from 6 yards.from then the home team stepped up the pressure but their chances were half ones at best and airdrie showed some resolute defending but looking dangerous on the counter.with a minute to go airdrie finished the game with a nice counter that saw shaw and brady combine down the right, shaw centred for gray only for a good save from the keeper but again the rebound to shaw and he fired home from 8 yards.ft 2-0
probably our best league result of the season.from start to finish the team worked their socks off and defended well against a fine side that has been on a good run of performances.but we created chances as well and gave as good as they got in both halfs.for me some fine displays but gary capaldi i thought was outstanding on the left of midfield.our first victory against a team in the top 6 and shows what we can achieve when we do the basics well and defend properly.for the home side a disappointment especially with tynecastle winning in what looks to be a two horse race for the title.however despite us going 4 games unbeaten against greenhills they are a good team with some quality players and im sure they will challenge right to the end
