Prediction League Wk 1 Round Up - Annan 3 - 1 Airdrie

As an Airdrie fan it never seems to take long for that summer feel good factor to be washed away; this season it took a 45 minute second half against Annan to bring the fans crashing down to earth yet again.

The summer has been encouraging and the large travelling support seemed to be looking for a reason to be cheerful ahead of Yesterday’s Petrofac Cup match against Annan Athletic.

Annan Line Up - Hart, Black, Swinglehurst, McNiff, P Watson, Sloan, Omar, Flynn, Weatherson, Todd, McColm
Subs - Osadolor, Lidell, Wadge, J Watson, Norman, Wagner, Currie

Airdrie Line Up - Parry, Bain, van Zanten, McBride, Crighton, Lithgow, Watt, Stewart, Morgan, Šumský, Cox
Subs - Subs: Prunty, Gilfillan, O'Neil, Morton, Ferguson, McAleer, Glackin

The first half was went Airdrie’s way with strong performances all over the park and we took a deserved lead on 11 minutes. A corner from Sumsky was headed home by Sean Crichton. We continued to battle for the remainder of the half giving our selves two may three chances to extend the lead and with Neil Parry left having very little to do in the Airdrie goals it was a confident performance.

The second half began the same way but it wouldn’t last, it took seven minutes for the game to change and began when Steven Sloan played in Josh Todd who fired home Annan’s leveller. From here on our midfield evaporated and Todd took full advantage of scoring his second and then sealing his hat-trick on 72 and 74 minutes respectively.

It could have been much worse if it wasn’t for Neil Parry in goals we could have easily have left Annan five or six down , the big goal keeper certainly earned his gloves yesterday.

My main complaint – Why are we starting the season playing players out of position namely Scott Stewart and Liam Watt playing on the wing when we have two natural wingers in MacAleer and Morton are on the bench?

The Prediction League –

Diamond F16 takes the early lead ahead of Inside Right and Diamonds 77 can they maintain their positions for the full season?
