Whilst I agree that we lack a wide player Mekki overall contribution was never impressive. It was not releasing him that was wrong but failing to replace with better. That hols true in other positions and the return of loan players serves only as a reminder of how badly we recruited in the summer.
The failure to bring on Gumbs is also indicative of a tendency to go for the inadequate but experienced. The return of those we have loaned out only takes the squad backwards

He wasn't the best as I say but better than what we have recruited, which highlights a weakness in the club I think, and the we shouldn't be releasing players unless we have identified and secured their improved replacement. Te club seem happy to take a gamble as opposed to make improvements. I get the restriction in budgets but shouldn't this make all the more important to have a sound scouting network in force, and ultimately it would save the client b more ey in the long run to spend a little more on the recruitment and a little more in wages to secure a player who brings the right quality and fits the managers brief. The likes of Banks were outtheir I think the summer and it makes me wonder that we only find the likes of him and Dmh by chance as opposed to identifying them. The constant summer in and outs and loanees are what got us to the NL in the first place unless we change that we won't get out. Clubs survived e much higher up the league pyramid than us on smaller budgets and that's because they have an ethos and they know what they are looking for.
