Merl of you play very narrow, they will be able to attack the flanks, thsts a contradictory statement.
Unless you have a DM like coquelin who can run and cover both flanks

Caz, our crossings are sh*t and with our 70% possession, we are always attacking down the middle to prevent Ostermunds from attacking down our flanks.

By controlling the middle, we are forcing, nay inviting, Ostermunds to attack our flanks and shepherd them down a blind alley.
It is only during the latter stage of game, when we lsot concentration, our shape and complacency crept into our game that Ostermunds was ablce to cut-in from the flanks.
