HG - the issue is not only the terminology used, its the fact that he used the term (whatever term is largely irrelevant but not totally) as an insult. The context is he is apparently referring to referees as '@#$%&'.
It is using a term to define an entire group of people as an insult. Do you not see the problem with that?
Its like everyone in your community using your family name as an insult for anyone they dislike. Would you consider that ok?
This kind of talk can condition people to view anything associated with that group as negative.
The common use of pejorative terms normalises and desensitises the issue which is dangerous in itself.
