Newport v Mansfield
09 May, 2019 20:31
Poor quality game at half time, and also bad tempered. A few sendings-off on the cards.

Newport playing Birkenhead Sunday League tactics, Mansfield much more mobile but lacking quality.

Nothing at all here for us to worry about once we have dispatched the Vegans.

Never underestimate any opponent and never believe that some opponents don't have a better than 0% chance of winning in all games.

This isn't a first round FA cup game against some team from the NPL level 1, like Prescot for example, this is another league 2 team and no game for any team is necessarily going to incur the use of the same tactical setup compared to their previous game.

Micky Mellon should be shrewd enough to perhaps know something about the game you refer to, but know not to necessarily attach the sentiment in your last line to it smiling smiley.

Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.

If it's like the 1st leg HKR, you'll sleep through it anyway!

Would prefer to play Mansfield as their form is stumbling and having missed out in the last two years the pressure will be on them

0-0 at half time and Mansfield struggling, Newport have been well on top and have spurned a few chances in that opening 45 mins. Newport lucky to have 11 players on the pitch, Butler came in with an elbow in an aerial challenge and can count himself a little lucky that it wasnt a red card...judging by this first half, i'd rather face Mansfield than Newport at Wembley, if we get there that is.

don't know how Newport haven't scored yet. in this second half they've hit the bar, the Stags keeper has made a great save, they had chances in the first half aswell.

The 1st leg was dire, this is much more exciting. Either team will give us a real test, and look miles better than FGR. Extra time and pens beckon.

Hi MPW, it was a good exciting second half with some good football from both sides and plenty of chances, Mansfield improved in second half, both keepers look decent..extra time it is..

Not sure which i'd rather face if we get past FGR.

One thing i do know is that these commentators are in love with CJ Hamilton, he's decent at this level but not as good as they're making out.

Very entertaining match, don't need 22 millionaires to have a great footy game.

for the neutral, that was a real good game to watch, both sides have put so much effort into it, shame there has to be a loser, both teams went for it in extra time and they weren't settling for penalties, but penalties it is..both keepers have looked good in that 120 mins.

That 87th min equalizer at Morecambe on the final day of season got them into the play offs in 7th position and now they are off to Wembley.

Jorge Grant, alleged specialist penalty taker, brought on for Mansfield with seconds left. They then nominate him to take the final penalty but due to Mansfield missing one, Grant never got to kick the ball. If you bring on a specialist penalty taker, at least make sure he gets to take one.

Couldn’t happen to a better person. I remember the away game at Mansfield earlier this season where Grant’s constant diving was an embarrassment to himself and his team.

Same happened to Ronaldo several years ago when he wanted the glory of taking the winning penalty but didn’t get to take one. Ha.

+1

He's only been sub recently. So maybe Mansfield have seen through him too?

I doubt Grant will be too fussed, he’ll still be going on holiday them back to Forest for another loan stint somewhere next season.

Newport will be tricky for either side who wins tomorrow night in a one-off game but then again in a way all teams are to be at this stage of post-season.

Well done to Newport .what the club has been through over the years and be were they are is brilliant .we have had a few rough times but nothing compared to them .they have a brilliant manager ,he is the glue that holds the club together he runs everything ,Newport through and through.thats 12unbeaten for them now going to be a tough nut to crack .feel sorry for Mansfield I thought the best out the 4 teams ,had it nailed on to go up and then that blip right at the end cost them ,it must be like a horse running away with the National and falling at the last fence or being overtaken by steptoes horse Hercules at the post .enjoyed the second half .all together 45 attempts on goal throughout the game ,impressive

Mansfield worried me more than Newport but now I'm not so sure.
I've got no axe to grind against either club and you're right - it's amazing how Newport have bounced back after their disappearance years ago. They'll feel like it's written in the stars now, after it looked so unlikely for so long that they would end up in this position - mid-table with just a couple of games left, then trailing at home to Mansfield. They'll be in a brilliant frame of mind for the final.
