Tottenham silverware
04 December, 2018 19:20
Its been a decade since Spurs have won any silverware and the FA Cup must surely be taken seriously by Spurs. I have been looking at Spurs run to the FA cup semi finals last season and in the earlier rounds they were not at full strength but did play quite a few of their big name players..

3rd round Tottenham 3-0 Wimbledon at Wembley Jan 2018

Vorm
Trippier
Foyth
Vertonghen
Walker-Peters
Sissoko
Wanyama
Dembele
Lamela
Kane
Llorente

subs

Lloris
Son Heung-Min
Nkoudou
Dier
Alli
Eriksen
Davies

4th round Newport county 1-1 Tottenham at Newport Jan 2018 ( needed an 83rd min equalizer from Harry kane, Joss Labadie MOM )

Spurs line up virtually identical to their 3rd round line up vs Wimbledon.

So if we do overcome Southport in the replay and with Spurs desperately needing some silverware then we could see quite a strong Tottenham team at Prenton.

Newport lost 2-0 at Wembley in the 4th round replay and then the 5th round was Rochdale 2-2 Spurs, with Rochdale losing the 5th round replay 6-1 at Wembley. So Newport n Rochdale took em to Wembley last season.

I don’t think they’ll @#$%& about, they have 3 easier games for the Prem over the Xmas period before us, Bournemouth,Wolves then Cardiff. They then don’t play for 10 days when they face UTD. If he rests players against us that will be 2 weeks for his big players without a game, no way he will go into the UTD fixture with rusty players.

Spurs wouldn't be stupid enough to go against a league 2 team in the top 10 with youth and a reserve goalkeeper.

I would expect that Kane might be rested or on the bench, but at least the main goalkeeper and potentially players like Alli, Dier and Vertonghen starting, so I would estimate a minimum of 5 of the mainstays used and no more than 8, because they might want a few younger players with little to no games to get a starting berth.

They would certainly have to be vigilient in not going with all the mainstays, in case one or two injuries saw them slip up against one or 2 of the listed struggling teams, thay are slated to play in that period. getting 9 points from 9 games would be a powerful return, but 4 - 5 from 9 would see them almost certainly lose ground on rivals and any rival getting a full house would gain 4-5 points over them, which could eventually, with an already existant points advantage, see Spurs fail to recover enough to overtake said rivals,

It's going to be a balancing act for Pochettino for sure.

The one thing Pochettino might do which would benefit Tranmere is what Hodgson did in the Liverpool V Northampoton game or Van Gaal in the Man U V MK Dons game, which is load the bench entirely with youth; no big names, because if Tranmere were up 1-0 with 30 minutes to go, Pochettino would be forced to be reliant on players with little or no playing time on loan or for him, coming on to rescue at least a draw and would the mindset of that player be good enough to handle that kind of situation, versus someone with Premier League quality, over 25 years of age, 5 or more full playing seasons under their belt and 200+ games playing experience?

Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.

MP was being interviewed by Salty on Radio Merseyside this evening. Sadly missed the most of it but when asked if Steeeve had worked out a plan to contain Harry Kane, MP said "Yes, he's going to eat him!"

Keep the faith... Oh and Steeeve.... not too much Christmas Turkey. Leave a bit of room for Harry!

They've now got a Carabao Cup semi final a few days after they visit us.
