My first pre-season game so looking forward to it. Since the U18's are playing tomorrow I assume this will be only the first team squad plus any triallists so here's hoping Tollitt, Tonga, Zoum etc. get a good run out - 60 minutes plus so after Fleetwood on Saturday we can know for sure whether we have any more signings or not...
Anyone in the know have any team/ triallist news?

A good game to go to.

Interesting to see if Davies is still injured. Good to get idea how bad it is, and whether we need to recruit. I'm not convinced Pilling is good enough as number 1 until Xmas.

I imagine Zoom and Tonga will get a full game, as we must be close to making a decision on them. Zoom is defo done enough to earn a contract from my POV.

And hopefully a trialist CF as Soukouna has now been poached by Bristol Rovers. Perhaps we should avoid naming next time.

To my understanding Soukouna said the Tranmere situation didn't feel right, so Bristol Rovers can do as they feel.

Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.

It was just a friendly tonight and not too much should be made of it.
We could easily have conceded a couple of goals before we scored and the team in the first half appeared out of sorts but we improved after the break!!

Ellis looked solid at the back and Zoom looked ready for a first team spot. We seem to have plenty of players in midfield and young Spelman had a good game and worked very hard. I certainly think we will see more of him. The loanee from Sheffield looks a good harrier and may replace Harris. Tollitt looked fit but yet to regain his confidence. I am sure that will come. We played a Spanish triallist but disappeared into midfield and did little. If Fleetwood are looking for a midfield player it is likely to be Ollie Norburn who is a class apart. No one will want him to go but funds are desperately needed for a replacement for Cook. I have yet to be convinced that Mullin is a natural goalscorer but it is early days!

Otherwise Smith looked decent and although Tonge has pace he did little tonight. I also fear McNulty might be a liability and there is no pace in the middle at the back!

Finally MM may have to sort out the goalkeeping position. Is Davies going to be fit as neither Pilling nor Wharton look ready to step up although Pilling did make acouple of good saves.

Early days and plenty of time for improvement!!

Pitch was awful. Like playing on Bidston Hill.
Started 4-2-3-1 with Monthe and Sutton either side of McNulty & Ellis.
Defensively we were all over the place until we scored, and then controlled the game.
But the first 30 mins was painful to watch, and Warrington could and should have scored 3 or 4.
Then from a rare bit of quality we scored - I thought it was Castano who goy it not Smith?
Second half we reverted to 4-4-2 and were much better with Sutton and Ellis at the back with Spellman and Zoom either side.
Norburn controlled the game and the only surprise is that we did not score more - would have done but the liner was very quick at flagging for offside.
Disappointed with Castano who save for the goal was anonymous; and Tonge who is not good enough. Would be surprised if we saw either again.
Really impressed by Spellman and Wharton, who for me should be in front of Pilling as sub keeper.
And Smith is a really exciting player who you just want to be on the ball - goes past people like they are not there.

That's a great summation RM. I agree we were poor in first half but better after the break. It was Castano. To be fair to the lad he looked like he had only just arrived and he was often in space and not passed to - long balls forward instead. I agree Tonge was average at best I had expected more. Running up blind alleys fast does not achieve much. Muliin was innocuous. Spellman I also thought looked very good on the ball although he wasnt being tested that much in defence. Jennings was excellent and looks very very sharp. Hopefully we will look a lot better Saturday on a quality pitch but that was overall not very encouraging..

If it is really the case that Joey Barton and Clint were at the match, when you realise that Fleetwood were in action at Workington , that would suggest that their visit was more that looking at Rovers, perhaps more a specific player ! Norburn ???

Horrible to think that this Saturday Barton will be sullying Prenton, a bit like having a really unwelcome visitor into your home. Anyone get the feeling he will end up being a 'Roy Keane' type of manager?

I hope he's not planning on poaching our best players!

Ollie Norburn seems to be on a few clubs radars this Summer, the test will be if we can keep hold of him.

Let's hope we don't become a feeder club, because some of the offers these idiots are making are bordering on insults!

Remember Wrexham trying to get Cook for £15k last season, they must have been on crack thinking wed sell him for that?

You try and buy a League 1 players and they want ridiculous money, but when they want to buy off us its an insult.

How much do you think Micky would sell Norburn for?

The Fleetwood game last night was just their development/ youth/ academy team.

With that in mind, i'm slightly impressed that the pair of them made the trip down to Warrington to scout a team they're playing in another friendly. Not many managers would go to those lengths. If it was to scout further players then que sera, sera.

That doesn't take away from the fact of his career as a player of course...
