I know it is only a few hours since England lost - but I think we need a new manager. someone who has got the guts to drop players and not pick players just on reputations. I just think southgate is not a big enough name worldwide. the perfect manager would be john terry. southgate was to scared to drop sterling and England suffered for it. sterling is not even good enough for chester fc never mind England. you may come back to me and say that southgate dropped rooney- he had no choice. rooney has now gone to the o a p home in the usa - and as for dropping hart- joe hart could not even catch the bus now so they do not count. I just think john terry would take no prisoners and tell it like it is. what do others think.

Southgate was the real positive that came out of England's campaign. Not the team's performances which consisted of beating some mediocre teams that they luckily got matched against. He instilled a positive attitude into the team and actually had them playing near their potential.

Now if we can unearth a forward that runs at defenders and finds his own team rather than tripping over his own feet, contributing the odd goal and assist here and there for good measure, then we might actually have a chance of winning something.

Honest opinion, utter rubbish.

Southgate has only been in the job since the farce with Fat Sam, we qualified for the World Cup and made our first semi final since 1990, progress in anyone's book?

As for high profile managers, we have already had Capello and Sven and both didn't exactly set the world alight, as an England Manager.

As for John Terry, will need his badges first and some experience, just because you have been a good player doesn't mean you will be a good manager.

The game last night was there to win in the first half but, we failed to take some good chances to put the game beyond Croatia, who, over the 120 Minutes were worthy winners.

no way should southgate go. from the absolute shambles of Iceland 2 years ago and the Allardyce time, he has done very very well. he has given young players a chance, has built up a good team spirit with belief and togetherness, he has no big egos in the side ( which has been englands problem for a long long time with the likes of Beckham etc etc ) our unders/youths sides have been fantastic too. its true that we are lacking a couple of players of real quality , especially in midfield but I think things under southgate can and will improve...we had a very good tournament and did very well to get to the semi. after the group stage I was impressed with how the young England lads maintained their discipline vs those disgraceful Colombians, they did well to beat a well organized Sweden and just fell short to a very good Croatia team who had an excellent midfield.. not so sure we can blame tiredness for last nights defeat though, Croatia had 3 group games like us, their first knockout game went to extra time and pens and so did their quarter final go the full distance of extra time and pens..the young england came up against a very good strong Croatia side last night but they can learn from this experience,, but I will say I was very disappointed with harry kane last night.

Another provocative post which unless Southgate wanted to go I doubt he will be pushed
I think he didn’t quite have enough time to build all the players needed.for a fairer assessment maybe by the euros he can put his best team out

I will be the first to admit, that I wasn't impressed and too chuffed with southgate getting the England job, but he has proved me wrong.

thought his 23 man squad selection for the tournament was pretty decent too. he was correct to drop joe hart, and with regards to our midfield, we do lack one or two players in that department that can attack with the ball and he was correct to not include jack Wilshire and the likes of ross barkley. hopefully Wilshire can sort himself out now that he has moved to west ham and he can get his career back on track and his England career too, barkley is a talent but also a complete enigma aswell. barkley needs to sit down and take a good look at himself but he needs good coaching.,,

ps. lets not forget that England didn't have oxlaide-chamberlain and adam Lallana at the world cup coz of injury and long lay-offs ( 2 players that could have made a real impact for England ), oxlaide-chamberlain has improved and Lallana has been one of englands best players recently.

Southgate deserves to stay and with Lallana and Oxlaide-Chamberlain out, the squad were a little hamstrung from the word go, but he still helped them get to a semi final.

I doubt porky Allardyce would have done that. A suspicion he'd have had man horse Andy Carroll in his team alongside Kane and seeing us potentially limp out at the group stages, with Kane denied a golden boot chance, by his oppo's very mild scoring prowess in big occasions.

Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.

there has been a ground-up overhaul within English football to effectively mimic what made Germany successful. success at world cup and Euros for u-17 and u-19 with u-21c also doing well means that the system will hopefully bring through youth who not only know the system but have excellent skill. this England team had the method but did lack some of the Wiltshire type unpredictability. I believe this will come over next 4 years. Southgate has had a huge input to this restructuring so deserves to stay.

There were players out through injury who would have been in the squad and who would have added 'bite' to the attack.

if the Premiership teams start to use English players in their teams (like Liverpool, Man City/United and Spurs have, then i think the future is bright.

we will see shortly as the European Nations championship starts in September - Spain and Croatia will be good tests.

Can there ever be a more pointless, meaningless and complete waste of a time football game than the 3rd/4th match at the World Cup.. ? would much rather watch pre-season friendlies or the one day cricket or even the womens tennis final at Wimbledon.

i suppose the only other football game that would be on a par with the 3rd/4th World cup match, as being a completely futile waste of time, would be Wrexhams final game of the season when all hope is gone and there is absolutely nothing to play for.

Well HKR if the England first team actually beats Belgium first team, I don't think it is a complete waste of time. And if they lose to Belgium, it will reinforce what we all know anyway, that the team is work in progress and we need to find playmakers for the midfield for more creativity.
