Our own young players
17 April, 2017 10:45
I don't go to any youth team games so was wondering if anyone does on here, are there any young players that could get into first team even the bench.

I'm bit concerned we get other teams young players in in loan, if our own young players aren't good enough for non league they won't be good enough for the league. If that is the case what is the point if having youth team set up. Some may look back at players we have sold but currently it doesn't look like the club rate any of them.

I do not think it is an either or issue. We often lend out younger players to teams in lower leagues as part of their development when they are not yet ready for the national, equally we borrow from league clubs players who may not be ready for league football but who can do a job at conference level. Dunn is a typical example.
Youngsters can have potential but it is no more than that. Kirby, for example, has looked OK at conference level but was not convincing when we were in the league.
It is however disappointing that in the last couple of seasons none of our young players have broken through to conference level. If that continues for many more seasons then there is a case for reviewing whether the youth system needs to be either changed or scrapped

Aldershot's best player last Friday Benyu is 19 and on loan from Ipswich.

Cole counts as one of our young players and with 2 hat-tricks in 2 months is doing a great job.
Mitch imo is a great prospect and should now be in the team.

Our best loan player recently has been Ben Tollitt who we then signed. I don't think Jack Dunn is anywhere near that quality and is certainly no better than our own Mitch. He is also overweight for a professional footballer, like Buxton and McNulty and am amazed that Micky and Jacko tolerate this. I agree on Aldershot's Benyu he must be the best loan player in the Conference at the moment, and will be a problem we will need to deal with if we get them rather than Dover in the playoffs. Collins and Sousa look very useful in the very short game times they have been given, and sharper and fitter than Dunn imo.

It is a long time since Stockton broke into the first team and not since Kirby have we produced a youngster who has gone on to play regular first team football even at our current level.

Didn't Max Power come through the youth route? Mitch Duggan definitely looks like a very good player who I expect to hold a first team place next season. Stephenson, although not a product of our youth system, also looks good.

I thinks we have quite a few bright prospects with more to come.

I will say one name Duggan .very good player last game for the seniors .man of the match never to be seen again .out on loan somewhere ..if given a chance I think he would have been an asset .like a few things Mm does I don't get it ,like leaving Cook out .picking Wallace. and some have picked up on some porky players it needs to be back to the old sand dunes Kings teams used to hate and stop selling pies in the new canteen or it's probably called LE CAFE these days

I can't agree with you on Dunn, and I'm pretty certain Micky doesn't either.

We have a very good young keeper in Luke Pilling. He is still Learning his trade but has received rave reviews this season. I confidently expect him to be our next first team keeper!

A problem you have in The Conference is the fact you can only have 5 players on the bench. In the FL you have 7 on the bench which allows a Club to add a couple of their youngsters who could be used if the game is really won with 20 minutes left. Most of the Conference teams would struggle to put 7 players on the bench, so the bigger teams have to "scale down". I think we should hear more of how our "loanees" are faring on the travels.

Thats OK efc0trfc3, I respect your opinion (& MM's!). But in my opinion Dunn is overrated. No assists and no goals in his appearances so far. It was his poor pass to Buxton that ended up with the latter diving in and getting sent off in that fateful Bromley game. Its a shame our scouts couldnt have picked up Benyu instead.
Our own Mitch is a far better player, and much fitter.

Rumour has it that if the club are promoted back to the football league it will have funds and resources to support and create a decent Under 23's squad.

We have the makings of a half decent team which are currently reliant on going out on loan to develop their game:

Luke Pilling, Eddie Clarke, Evan Gumbs, Mitch Duggan, Sam Ilesanmi, Tol Omitola, Daren Askew + existing scholars and released youngsters from Everton, Liverpool, Man U etc. etc.

I left my heart in Papworth General

Dunn did not look overweight at Guiseley to me-he played well when he first came here until he injured himself racing out after a long clearance from our area. He was then out until last Monday when he was poor in the minutes he was on.But he hadn't played for umpteen weeks so it's hardly surprising.

Duggan came on against Dag and Red away and was MOM for the last thirty minutes. He then played IIRC against Woking[when I was away] but since I came back I haven't seen him. He's been at Warrington but it's hard to find out how many games he's actually played for them.Presumably MM thinks he is better off there for the moment

What do you base your comment that ''our own Mitch is a far better player, and much fitter ''on?

Dunn is not the answer.
Opinion on Mitch is based on his cameo in the Woking home game, and his MoM performance at Dagenham away.

Bell Baggie had two great performances against Notts County but was nothing like as good against anybody else. He wasn't the answer either but Dunn needs to play in the two remaining games for a proper fair opinion to be formed. Based on the games before his injury ,I would disagree with you.

Thats ok. If by 3pm on Saturday we are no longer in it then yes MM needs to try a few things out. Definitely rest the 1st team for the Maidston game.
