Players needing a rest?
12 April, 2017 12:54
Just thinking about the staggering amount of games we've played recently, and thinking about the players who have played in all the match.

Off the top of my head, Vaughan, ihiekwi, McNulty, Ridehalgh, C Jennings, Hughes and Norwood must be getting pretty tired.

Maybe a bit of squad rotation is needed to keep the players fresh, for the possible playoffs.

Maybe play wingers instead of wing backs for one match?

Players prefer to be on the pitch rather than resting. It's one defeat after a great run. There is still hope even if it took a knock last night. The system is successful and we should stick with it.

Very difficult this one, too many and you disrupt the whole team.

I would agree with Vaughan, Ridehalgh and possibly Hughes but, Connor has only recently come back and is starting to show his early season form.

Defensively we need to remain strong and with Sutton (who may be injured?) the only other specialist option I would leave it as it is.

Souza and Collins both have pace and as you say we could possibly change tactically. If Maynard is now fully fit he is an option both in midfield and defence.

Glad I don't have to make these sort of decisions!!!!

I'm not thinking of changes due to the loss, just generally the routine this week of:

Matchday
2 days off
Matchday
2 days off
Matchday
2 days off
Matchday

In those days off they have to prepare tactically for the next match, as well as recover from the previous one..

Ridehalgh has been excellent and consistent, if he's fit he should play.

Consistency is what's needed and wholesale changes will disrupt the momentum of the team.

Wallace is still not the player he once was, so I would select Maynard now he's fit again. Wallace can sit on the bench as cover.

Hughes shows glimpses of experience, but can sometimes go missing. We just need to play our strongest players available and work on putting the half chances to effect.

Too many set pieces and one on one's going begging.

I'm sure everyone is well aware of what's at stake, and they will be up for the challenge.

The FGR game was a smash n grab situation and tbf we could well have won it.

We go again and up the anti for Friday.

Lincoln will still be watching what we do, it's them who are under pressure

Just a reminder that once Grimsby had secured their play off position, they rested several players for the last game of the season against us.
It worked for them

Not a bad plan. Come Monday we'll know a lot more about where we are. After that there will only be two games left and I'd imagine we're now 100% safe for the playoffs

Well Lincoln had one star man sent off and one injured so you never know what could happen...

It is easier to rotate when you do not have an injury list as long as ours. I can see more of a case for easing the demands on players by substitutions in any game in which we have established control.Too many changes breaks up the rhythm of a team.At this point automatic is possible and that is likely to be the case until the penultimate game. I seem to recall that Grimsby only made whole scale changes for the last game against us.That makes sense not so much in terms of providing rest but in avoiding injuries to key plsyers

Wasn't impressed with Connor before Christmas but since last three games he has worked his socks off should have scored against FGR but so should Norrs I think up the workers
