Gael Clichy is ready to impress France coach Raymond Domenech following his first call-up to the national squad.
The Arsenal defender admitted his surprise at being included in the squad for the friendly fixture against Spain on Wednesday and the reserve game against the Republic of Congo on Tuesday.
"Of course it is a big surprise, even if for some time I heard about it," he said.
"I was paying more and more attention to the last calls.
"I knew after the training session when I had a message from my sister. It was a mix of joy, emotion and pride."
The 22-year-old has made 31 appearances for the Gunners this season in all competitions and is keen to make his mark in whichever game he is picked to wear the blue shirt, as he reserved praise for club boss Arsene Wenger.
"The work I have done for several years has finally paid off. I would also like to thank Arsene Wenger who has always had faith in me," he continued.
"I owe him a lot and I hope to pay him back.
"Now I am keen to join the squad, wear the blue shirt and play against Spain or Congo. I will probably play with the French reserves and that is logical.
"It is a nice reward anyway and an opportunity to show the national coach I can be part of the squad.
"It's a dream that has finally come true, now I hope to be a part of it for a long time."
