Ronaldo's freekick

Seriously what is everyone's problem. Have had about 5 people tell me it was the best goal they've seen in a long time.

But for me, good goal, but i've seen Van Persie score better or lets say perfect free-kicks. Ronaldo has never been a great free kick taker, and for me it was more of a lucky punt than anything, he didn;t get any curl on it he just punted it if you look at his technique when he struck the ball.

Not slating the goal, but i'm getting a a bit annoyed with this Ronaldo hype, yes he wins games but he doesn't control them liek players like Kaka, Fabregas etc. If he could do that i'd happily admit he is not over-hyped.

I thought it was pretty damn incredible, the way it moved, the power, the dip. It's his technique, people can't really say its lucky anymore after he's done it quite a few times this year. I agree and I've seen loads of free-kicks better than it, but that doesn't mean it wasn't an incredible sight. He's easily the best player in the world and I think that people need to start realizing we're witnessing a legend in the making. I hate the kid's very essence but I know how to respect what I'm seeing.

It was good, but was it better than Flamini goal in open play?

Yes, that freekick was excellent, especially because of the way the ball dipped.

However, there are much better freekicks, RvP's one for example.

As soon as i saw Ronaldo's freekick, for some reason i thought of RVP. His freekicks are always awesome.

Such a shame he has had trouble with injuries, he would have been right up there now if fully fit.

Ronaldo's free kicks are hit or miss. He either blasts it @#$%& knows where or he scores. His balls are hard to tame. Too shaky in the air.

thing about rvp's freekicks is that he shoots directly at the keeper but the ball moves so fast that the keeper doesnt have enough time to react

just watch the goals against ivory coast and sunderland...the ball was going straight to the keeper but when the gk moved the ball was already in the net

that is amazing...they can say its the keeper's fault but try saving a ball that fast

The ball curled away from James and into the side netting.

Maybe the hype will cause him to be complacent when we next face ManUre.

It had a lot to do with how windy it was. On another day it could hve ebded up anywhere. I think he has good technique but quite frankly without the wind the ball would not have ended up there and therefore it was not so much about his personal ability to strike a ball. owever his ability to maipulate the gusts is something to credit if he meant it.

For those unawre there were gale force winds in manchester yesterday

what curl? Are you guys still using CRT TV sets?

On my 62 Inch TFT, the keeper was on the left post and run, the smash and grab king, hit it staright ahead. good technique, good dip. Given. But excellently curled freeking? suck my 7!

Warning: Supporting Arsenal is not for the faint at heart... It requires hard balls...

Sooo not even in the top 20 freekicks in the prem. I thought it was fairly regulation..... it was OK but don't over egg it.

My criteria: 1) Technique, bend and angle, 2) Distance, 3) it must come off the underside of the bar.

Diarra last minute moved aside to hide behind a teammate and the defenders did not jump.

Fairly Good Free kick.

James WAS slightly right of centre when the ball flew into the top corner to his left.
it flew forward in a straight line. as it was a chip it rose and then dipped. Any curl would be due to High Winds prevailing accross the Country.

I agree with the first two points but why must it come off the underside of the bar? That just makes it look better than it actually is.

I agree, way too much is being made of it but it is a quality free kick simply because of the way he hits the ball. To get it up and down from 25 yards with your laces is a difficult skill.

What most people don't seem to realize, is that Ronaldo has COPIED Juninho's unique technique. In case you forgot, Juninho is the best free-kick specialist in the world, with already more than 30 goals scored from direct free-kicks, many of them far more spectacular than Ronaldo's latest.

A free kick that bends down a lot will not not strike the underside of the bar, basic trigonometry will tell you that. I don't think it was the best free kick ever, I've seen many better but the fact is he does take a lot of good free kicks. Most of his kicks are on target or just wide...some do hit the wall or go well wide but he has been best free kick taker this season period.

Here's a compilation of Juninho's goals. If you can't be arsed to watch for the entire 6 minutes, you should at least check out the first free kick. There are some really great goals in there though..
