The Defence is improving - all thanks to Juan Carcedo?

We struggled in 2018 to come to grip with the new Emery Regime.
And those defenders inherited from Arsene Wenger were at sea, no composure and no integration with midfield.
We leaked goals and clean-sheet is a rarity.

Rob Holding was a revelation under he got injured.
Bellerin found his mojo till he went of injured.
Jenkinson improved and got a new lease of life.
And now, Maitland-Niles is beginning to settle down and focussed on his right wingback role.

And Emery found his best defensive trio in Sokratis-Koscielny-Monreal and long may they reign and remind injury-free for the reminder of the season.

Should credit be given to Emery's right-hand man, Juan Carcedo who is the defensive coach?

There is renewed confidence that our Defence can only improve.
With new buy(s) in the summer, and hopefully Holding, Chambers, Bielik and "forgotten" Mavropanos continue to improve, we will really have a solid back-line for 2019/20 season.

Not forgetting that potentially, Ballard and Medley may also surprise us next season if they continue to develop as rapidly as Holding under Emery and Carcedo.

'The more things change, the more they remain the same' Alphonse Karr.

I agree Merl.
I like the way Emery is switching his defensive formation around, when he hasn't got a great settled setup in one single formation.
A lot of EPL managers try, for too long, in setting up their formations, looking for their best option.
Emery is using his tactical nous to keep opposition managers guessing.
IMO we would be closer to City and Lpool if Holding had of stayed injury free, but we must replace Mustafi. He's a mistake waiting to happen.
There's a lot better quality CBs around for the £35m we paid for him.
