Age of our squad

Actually, it doesn't look that bad to me - I was surprised at how many good young players (ie those 23 and under) we have in the list below. If Ramsey & Wellbeck leave, it is only really Koscielny, Cech & Lichtsteiner that drag the average age up above other top squads - and the days are surely numbered for all those three.

17 Saka
18 Nelson, Smith-Rowe, Medley
19 Guendouzi, Nketiah, Willock
21 Maitland-Niles, Mavropanos, Bielik
22 Torreira, Iwobi
23 Bellerin, Chambers, Holding

25 Kolasinac
26 Leno, Mustafi, Martinez, Jenkinson, Xhaka, Elneny
27 Lacazette
28 Ramsey, Wellbeck
29 Aubameyang, Mkhitaryan
30 Ospina, Sokratis, Ozil
33 Koscielny
34 Lichsteiner
36 Cech

In a years time a third of squad will be 30 or more

- until Wenger moves on, they'll always be the also-rans in the major competitions. A club in elite purgatory. Always good enough to make it to the big race, never fast or smart enough to push over the finish line in first place. That's all about the manager. Until he changes, Arsenal fans will continue to celebrate glorious failure.

The answer is both

We need to sign more 21/22 year olds, who
are established. The marjority of our younger players are not ready

Established or good enough. Guendouzi is good enough to be in the and also play a few games. We need to find a few torreiras in defense. Aubameyang and Lacazette are good enough for 2 more years

No unfortunately I don't think it is that good a situation.

Too many of our players in the younger end of the spectrum have made minimal first team appearances (Saka, Medley, Bielik) or aren't established yet (Nelson, Willock).

Too many players in the "peak" of their career (24 - 29) aren't good enough (Martinez, Jenkinson, Elneny) or are about to leave (Ramsey, Welbeck).

Too many of the older players are finished (Cech, Lichtsteiner, Koscielny), and you've missed out Monreal who isn't as bad as those three but is going the same way and is picking up those niggly injuries like many older players do.

We need a clear and definite strategy to try establish our better youth prospects and make younger first team signings, whilst getting rid of the oldies/ players earning well above their ability.

Mentioned in the article I did the other day that unfortunately I don't think we'll ever be able to take advantage of having such effective strikers.

I fear Aubameyang will be done by the time we've built up a team good enough to challenge for major honours.

It doesn't matter how old they are, it's how good they are. How many of our team/squad would be looked at by the better teams? Sure we need young players for the future, but they have to be good.
