Loan Manager

Now it seems as though Arsenal are set to embrace the loan system. This week, it was announced that senior football analyst Ben Knapper, whose name I only heard for the first time on Monday, is set to be hired as a Loans Manager, a position that the club is opening especially for Knapper.

Currently, Arsenal have seven players out on loan: Matt Macey (Plymouth), David Ospina (Napoli), Calum Chambers (Fulham), Krystian Bielik (Charlton), Keleci Nwakali (Porto), Reiss Nelson (Hoffenheim), Takuma Asano (Hannover 96). Typically, the Gunners have struggled to make the most of the loan system. Oftentimes, their loanees are not actually given regular football and just sit on the bench of whatever team they are sent to. That obviously makes little sense.

Interesting read.

Football business just evolved again, first started by Arsene Wenger by buying youngsters for a song and them sell them for a lucrative profit.
The classic example is signing Anelka for free and then selling him for 23-mil.

Similarly, paying 100,000 compensation for Cesc and then selling him back to Barca for 30-mil.

For every 50 youths signed for our academy, maybe only 1 or 2 will make it to senior team. The rest are just money-making business, and have a professional football career elsewhere.

A Loan Manager will take care of this side of football business in a systematic manner, ensuring that loanees will have plenty of playing time instead of sitting on the bench (like mismanaging Gnarby at WBA), plenty of data analytics to gauge their potential either make it into Arsenal senior team or just sold for a profit.

I believe this is the sleazy side of European Professional Football where youths from Africa are cruelly exploited by European clubs like a 21st Century Slave Market. We only see successes. But how many thousands fell by the sides and throw into the flesh market?

That is what I like about Arsene Wenger.
If those youths cannot make it at Arsenal, he makes sure that they will have a professional football career elsewhere.
