Arsenal v Atletico Madrid

We lost on penalties after a 1-1 draw.

Seems like Guendouzi was our best player (according to the BBC) and Smith-Rowe scored a great equaliser after Atletico took the lead.

Most players on both sides missed their penalties or had them saved (including Mikhtaryan, Willock & Nketiah).

great equaliser doesn't do it justice. It was something very very special by the young man. He loves to run at players and take a shot. Can't wait to see more of him.

If anyone can describe our formation and how the 22 players filled those positions, it would be much appreciated.

Arseblog indicated that Emery might have switched to a back 3 in the 64th minute with Kolasinac and Osei-Tutu as wingbacks.

Didn't see the game myself due to work but aparently we started with a 4-3-3 and then switched to 5/ 3 at the back.

Ball look stuck to Smith-Rowe's feet, great close ball control. Excited to see him again.

Willock and Nketiah took responsibility, but also took some awful pens.

Guendouzi has a similar appearance to Elneny and I'm not sure if that made him look like a more similar player than he is. But to me he looked like another rangey, tidy midfielder who hussles more than he tackles and is good at spraying the ball sideways. There were some decent forward passes too though.

Maitland-Niles is frustrating to watch, his concentration lets him down and so despite his technique and physique he always has a mistake in him. Unforced errors like passes or touches out of play when under little pressure.

Smith-Rowe looked very tidy and like an older player, lots of movement between the lines.

Watched the match from my StarTimes mobile app at work though I was working and watching. Thanks to StarTimes, I will get to all our preseason games.

That Rowe's goal was a stunner!
Positive signs but I Guess We Need To Improve On Our Penalty Taking Skills and Perfect A Way Past Defensive Minded Teams. Happy With What I've Seen So Far. We are still a work in progress and I bet Emery will be encouraged by watch he saw and knows what he needs to do.

Possession must translate to goals.

The equaliser by Smith-Rowe today was great but this strike from him earlier in the year is flighty:
