I was looking for a Cazorla replacement on last year's FM and searched for a two footed, technically sound attacking midfielder and Max Meyer came up.
He has actually been playing a deeper midfield role this season.
Not going to hold my breath though, plenty of "ITK's" on Twitter claimed Goretzka was a done deal and look what happened there.

I do hipe we get him in the summer on a free. Reports says he is like a Cazorla mark 2 and better defensively - he has the best stats for a midfielder in terms of interceptions or something.

Yeah mate we could start talks now. Fingers crossed we have as I imagine they'll be a fair bit of interest, and I'm already annoyed we missed out on Goretzka.

I certainly hope we can tie him down, he has played that deep lying role beautifulthis season, and unlike Xhaka he has some bite to him, as well as very good dribbling skills

That indicates he can read the game if true, which would make a difference to Xhaka.
