We could use a big, commanding CM, but we have decent depth at most positions.

My biggest concern is at Keeper. Cech showed that he was slipping last season - failing to get down quickly and let in about a half dozen stoppable goals. And I have zero confidence in Ospina. Sure, he is a shot-stopper, but he is not built for this league because of his lack of stature and his fearfulness on high balls into the box results in paralysis. He is soft, too - good for a lie down in every match he plays.

I would have preferred making a new long-term deal with Szczesny.
We will regret letting him slip away ... and we will regret it soon.

I am very anxious to see how a foxy guy like Lacazette works in our offense.

Monreal as our solo CB? He was a revelation at left wing when we went three at the back and now look. His versatility is just so valuable.

Doesn't look good for Chambers does it? Must be off surely? Real shame though, good player.

Personally though, I'd have thought Chambers-Holding-Monreal, with Kolasinac at LWB and Oxlade-Chamberlain at RWB, would be better and more balanced than the current lineup. We'll see though.

Dream start for Arsenal and Lacazette! 1-0!

Bellerin lays the ball back to Elneny. Elneny chips in a great first time cross and Lacazette heads home well.

Don't like this lineup at all, no balance.

Elneny just ignored a perfect chance to play Oxlade-Chamberlain in down the left and instead went back to Kolasinac. Poor.

Half time 2-2.

Absolute sh*te. We started well and were playing some good stuff but it soon went to pot. Our makeshift defence falls apart every time Leicester play the ball forward. We conceded twice and both goals came from our own giveaways. Fortunately we equalised right at the stroke of half time.

Holding has been shocking again, as has Bellerin. Again Oxlade-Chamberlain hasn't had the impact he would've liked. Xhaka and Elneny hasn't worked. Ozil has been hit and miss. Lacazette has been pretty good though.

We'll never win the league again under Wenger. Always so under prepared and all over the shop. Embarrassing to watch, amateur stuff.

Holding needs to play to his strength and not try to be Beckenbaur. His troubles begin when he brings the ball out of defence and is highly susceptible to opposing pressure.

Also Ozil does not appear ready. He looks off pace.

Playing out from the back is Holding's strength usually. The problem is the bloke was late back for preseason and only had 45 minutes of friendly game time under his belt. He looked rusty as f*ck in the Charity Shield and he looks even worse tonight as the tempo is a lot, lot quicker.

We were getting done over because of the lack of balance and our own giveaways.

We had Xhaka sat in front of the defence and Elneny on his toes getting in the way, hence Leicester goal #2. We had Elneny acting as our B2B midfielder, as evidenced by the fact he was the one getting into the final third, but unfortunately he doesn't possess the tools to make it mean anything. Leicester had some units at the back and if we were going to win the game we obviously needed more nous in the final third.

Look pal, it is nothing to do with Ramsey and you know it. Its to do with your need to be right all of the time. You suggested we bring on a ball-winner, I suggested we needed more in the final third. I'm not trying to claim any sort of "moral victory" because Ramsey scored, but you know what? Arsenal are going away with an ACTUAL victory because Ramsey scored, just like in the FA Cup final. As it turned out, I was right. Don't beat yourself up about it, we won. That's all that matters.

I'm not suggesting buying somebody for one match, that'd be ridiculous. I've been saying all summer that I wanted us to sign a centre back. We could've signed van Dijk and had him starting last night. We even had Chambers sat in the stands chewing gum. We would've had a more balanced defence had he started in the back three, instead of having two left backs in there.

Monreal makes a far better centre back when in the middle of the three.

Always good enough to make it to the big race, never fast or smart enough to push over the finish line in first place. That's all about the manager. Arsene wenger has done an absolutely masterful job within the constraints he has... Every single year, he has outperformed our spending every single year he has been manager. It is extraordinary. -Gazides.

F*ck you all. We played without four of our first choice centre backs (Kos, Mert, Mustafi, Gabriel), plus Sanchez and Ramsey (who was not ready to start) and still won. Let go of all this negativity and get behind the team for a change. Give the lads a chance to prove their worth. It's just the first game for crying out loud.
These guys are not Arsenal fans to be fair, they have a mental picture of their own club that they support but it's certainly not Arsenal.

Of course there were other options, Wenger used them in the end.
Monreal makes a far better centre back when in the middle of the three.
Thank you, one sensible comment in about three years now.

Thanks De Times, praise indeed from the Sultan of Spin, I could never hope to emulate that Sanogo was better than Lacazette.
Well, in my defence I was relying on the analysis of the player from those who now clearly know nothing about football on here.

We don't need Ramsey at all in this game, we need someone like Coquelin to sit. We've got enough going forward, we need someone to stop their counter
Welbeck and Laca have been the only positives
Proof your opinion on the came shouldn't ever be taken seriously.

Can't you read. The reason we started with a makeshift defence is because all of our first choice centre backs are either injured or suspended. You just don't go out buy a someone for one match. Take your head out of your a$$ mate.

Well if it were up to me, Mertesacker would've gone at the end of 2015-16 where he was terrible, but he would've definitely gone at the end of last season. Instead we're keeping him for a send off season, great... Gabriel can go as well, he doesn't have the mental attributes to play for Arsenal.

That would leave us with Koscielny, van Dijk, Mustafi, Holding, Chambers and Monreal/ Kolasinac, which is fine and basically what we have now. Koscielny only has one or two years maximum at the top level. Nobody gets in Holding's way.

Mertesacker, Holding, Gabriel & Chambers should not even be considered as our C/Backs.
They are clearly not good enough.

And Koscielny's chronic Achilles tendinitis will plague him more and more often.
He won't last much longer.

We need a CM who can defend but considering how xhaka s distribution has been, its not gonna happen.
The LCBs and RCBs need to stop fuckinh about in the opposition box. We will get caught in transitions all year like we did against vardy

Mentioned this in another thread but in terms of the system we're currently playing, this is the main issue I have. We are supposed to have three at the back and two attacking wing backs, but so far this season and throughout preseason we've had the wide centre backs bombing forward without a care in the world. It is okay when it comes off, like that good half-volley Kolasinac had, and his later assist for Welbeck, but there are times when it won't work, like the couple of times Holding lost possession high up the pitch. Better teams will destroy us for amateur mistakes like that, but I'm hoping the Mustafi-Mertesacker-Koscielny three will be a lot more solid.
