Its pointless rating our players at this point. We all know they would be performing better under a different manager.

I don't want any player who'd try harder under a different manager.

As much as we want Wenger out, some of the players lack of effort is a disgrace.

We've got so many shite players.

As much as I'd like to agree with you on this, this is the nature of teams. Football teams is an extreme case, but the same applies across sport and businesses. If the leader doesn't have a vision that the team can sign up to and believe in, if the team doesn't believe in them as a person, then the leader won't be able to motivate well enough and it's inevitable that people will lose focus and won't put in full effort.

In elite sport it's a lot more obvious, because the margins are so small. So if 1 premier league team is 99% motivated and another is 98% motivated it will be obvious when they play each other. But can you honestly say that we've always been fully committed to our work when we've had a boss who we don't like or who we think is not competent? I definitely have had periods where I haven't been fully motivated in my work and my productivity clearly drops.

And don't say that they should be held to a different standard because they get paid so much. Money is an extrinsic motivator rather than an intrinsic one. The amount of money is irrelevant, for a player the money they earn is only about recognition and status. So the absolute amount of money is not what is important, it's the relative amount of money compared to other footballers. And no matter how much a person earns, other factors will always be more important to their motivation levels.

Ultimately, it's the job of "Managers" or "Leaders" (in any organisation, whether that's a sports team, business or government) to get the best out of their teams/employees/workers.

If it was 1 player who wasn't performing then that player needs to up their game or be moved on. When it's pretty much every player in the squad who is underperforming, then it's the manager who has to take the responsibility for the collective lack of effort.

Spot on.

This also applies to our poor attitude problems, definsive problems and even injury problems.

If it was a few players or even one set of players that had the weak mentality, the poor defensive organisation and the constant injuries that you blame in on those player but when the same problems keep on happening for season after season for 13+ years and with diferrent sets of players then it is not the players that is cause of these problems but the person who is charge of those players and who is been there throughtout all those 13+ years. It is simple logic.

Zonal marking can work if players focus and stick to their job of marking. This can only be successful if the players are trained incessantly such that it becomes 2nd nature. Looking at the 2 goals we conceded today at corners to the same scorer, it is clear that discipline is not drilled into every Arsenal player. In today's case, it was Ramsey who went missing.

Will Wenger chew up Ramsey in the post mortem? Will Ramsey pay a price for not sticking to his marking assignment. I think not bcos it is not the Wenger player management approach. Ramsey for responsible for both Watford goals when we last lost to them but it appears he is not implicated then.

I totally agree with Super Rob on this.
Don't agree with Mapleleaf or Redknapp and Henry, please see what I wrote on the Ramsey thread, you may not entirely agree but singling out one player whos job isn't to track a player at a corner isn't correct. The whole idea of zonal is to heve momentum towards the ball and clear it, have a second wave to charge down the second ball and the entire defence should move out as a unit, previous Arsenal teams did it to an art turning a corner into a counter attack, this bunch of players clearly have no idea, that is poor coaching.

Poor coaching leading to poor player decision making but your still allowed common sense and you still have free will as pv4 th14 and company proved on many of occasions they had the character to act on their own where needed because these players are winger drones we are sure purely his man amend skills and if he started out like this with winger drones he would not have the initial legacy he has which is to be respected but the legacy of failure in 13 years is just as monumental if you place them back to front you can't see there being chance of the success due to him not ever getting more than 2/3 years of patients at best.

Today we have many options to replace him with much more tactically aware and astute managers who are young but old enough at the same time I can't imaging missing out on someone like Allegri to give Wenger more time to mess things up.

@essex_gooner: Zonal marking does not mean u dont mark players. Especially danger players who has a habit of scoring from setpieces or players who are rushing in from outside the box. Wenger would have seen WBA's past setpieces, identify the dangermen and assigned markers on those players. If the responsible player forgot to mark, Kos should be screaming at him to do so. But it still boils down to the responsible player taking ownership of a dangerous situation.

In any case I thought this is a good game to rest Mustafi who had been poor lately and start BFG. While BFG might not be the best header for a player of his height, he can bring some discipline and leadership to our defence. Plus WBA's strikers are not speed demons so his starting would not be an issue.

I agree on the BFG when height is needed its no good sitting on the bench
on zonal marking if the midfield players track back into the zones behind them they will get in the way of the players who should be dominating their zones, this isn't a normal tracking back situation the fault lies with the players who didn't man their zones.
