Best 'not quite' all time world X1

People have been doing their best all time X1 on the other thread, but of course it all ends up much of a much-ness because there have been 15 or so exceptional players who everybody puts into their teams. ie. Pele, Maradona, Messi, Ronaldo (both), Zidane, and so on.

So what about your best not-quite all time World X1. An underrated world X1 if you like. You have to comprise a world x1 (players in our lifetimes please) but you are NOT allowed to include

Gullit
Maradona
Platini
Pele
Cruyff
Zidane
Figo
Messi
Ronaldo (either of them)
Ronaldinho

If anyone can think of any players that should be in that list that I have forgotten, let me know, and we can put them in as well.

So, whats your team?

i agree, I should have put some defenders in. There just seemed to be so many, whereas the elite attacking players seemed to be from a smaller bracket.

Baggio is a good call. Should have worked him into my x1. Also Alvaro Recoba. I used to love him. A seriously underrated player.

How come no one remembers Batistuta?

- until Wenger moves on, they'll always be the also-rans in the major competitions. A club in elite purgatory. Always good enough to make it to the big race, never fast or smart enough to push over the finish line in first place. That's all about the manager. Until he changes, Arsenal fans will continue to celebrate glorious failure.

I was always a big fan of Gabriels, and admit he was one dimensional, but that`s what great strikers do.

As for Crespo being the better of the two, if you care to look at their total stats, you`ll find that Crespo, great player that he was, played 608 times for club and country for 271 goals and Batisuta played 516 times for 300 goals.

was gonna go for keane but chose similar players with better technique

as for batigol crespo like i said batigol was good but one dimensional
crespo made alot more goals was both footed was better in the air was a better dribbler with better technique
batistuta always had teams built to him ie crespo played alongside other 30 goal strikers alot including batigol
fiorentina batigol was the point of the attack
crespo never had that
crespo between 97 and 2002 was a menace playing for the most exciting teams,

all oppinion tho

but lately ive just been really into supreme fox in the boxes(maybe due to the lack of modern ones)
a supreme fox is the box

crespo,inzaghi,muller,shearer,raul,rvn,trezguet,falcao,

usually dont need a wide range of attributes because there nose for goals but crespo was nice with it in that he drop off when he wanted to and curl a 3o yarder into the top corner,

his technique gave him this extra cold demeaner compared to most players of his time and type(like falcoa) ie the 1st time lob goal against liverpool in the CL FINAL.crespo didnt care how he got them,
he was obsessed with scoring so u could tell he practised every single position within 40 yards from goal over and over again
batistuta had much fewer options move out of feet and hit it with his right(mostly) crespo.ian wright, romario, falcao are obsessed probally have practiced the ball coming at that awkard angle on there weaker foot 100 times before heck i even a bad 1st touch wont stop them they just adapt

batistuta was hit it and hit it hard(and accurate), relied on shot technique like jimmy floyd hasselbaink or rvp,
but none of these strikers are natural poachers but they learn it well but they just will not have that knack.

batistuta was world class finisher but subconsiosly you knew as a midfeilder find his right foot and he will score crespo , ian wright it is throw the ball to there feet, chest, head behind them infront of them because like ive said they are so obsessed they have practisted for you to do that

like i said great players but players like romario and crespo win you things due to there unfussy scoring ways

I agree with you Nis. It`s a bit like comparing DB10 with `Horse-face`.

Hernan was more of a 10 and Gabriel a 9. Both very good strikers, but Batistuta`s goal/game ratio is superior and that`s why I choose him.

If I really though about it, they`d probably make a good striking partnership. They must of played together for Arg. after the 98 WC, where HC replaced GB off the bench. GB was about 6 or 7 yrs senior.

My 2nd best team the players I've seen:

-------------Shilton---

Jorginho--Cannavaro--Puyol--Roberto Carlos

----------------Matthaus----------

Beckham----------Platini----------Iniesta

----------Zico-------------------------

---------------Henry--------------------

Bench: Schmeichel, Daniel Passarella, Mauro Silva, Carlos Valderrama, Romario, Bergkamp

Best team 11:

--------Dino Zoff-------

Cafu--Franco Baresi--Maldini--Andre Brehme

------------Viera------------

--------Zidane--Maradona--------

--Messi---------------Ronaldinho--

-----------Real Ronaldo-----------

Bench: Van der ser, Jurgen Kohler, Dunga, Xavi, CR Ronaldo, Van Basten

And I believe in real footall if would have ever happened, the 2nd 11 could beat the 1st 11 coz there are lot of 4-4-2 specialists there.

Bobby Moore
Paolo Maldini

Zico
Johan Neeskens
Gunter Netzer
Hristo Stoichkov

Gerd Muller
Eusebio

And for the oldies amongst us an all English dream team from the 1970's who barely had 50 caps between them. WTF were we doing back then?

Paul Madely
Kevin Beattie
Roy McFarland
David Nish

Tony Currie

effenberg was like scholes with flair or scholes mixed with viera and yet still better defensive acumen(than scholes not viera)

and despite what the british media will have you belive prime veron wiped the floor with any midfielder cm in his time,
fergie doesnt nearly break the world record for just anybody.
