Djourou’s Twitter vow: My future is at Arsenal

Defiant Johan Djourou has tonight committed his future to Arsenal and emphatically denied he ever wanted a move away from the Emirates.

Various seemingly erroneous reports suggested Djourou, 25, targeted a move to Italy because he was fed-up with Arsene Wenger and the Gunners after making just 14 Premier League starts during the last campaign.

But sufficiently stung by the rumours, he has taken to Twitter to deny wanting to leave the club and end speculation as to his future. He tweeted: “I just wanted to deny all what have been said in the press about my transfer. It isn’t true at all. I have been at Arsenal since 10 years now and I m always commited to this club.”

The original story came about when Djourou’s agent hinted that his player could move to Italy or Spain this summer, with Serie A’s Juventus and Napoli clubs in the mix and a £10million fee being touted.

Djourou has a contract at Arsenal that runs until 2015, and was said to be miffed at his lack of playing time while also miffed at being played out of position by Wenger.

Switzerland international Djourou prefers to play at centre-back but made many of his appearances at right-back.

It all stems from quotes attributed to his agent, Flavio Ferraria, who is supposed to have said: “At the moment Napoli are not on the list of appointments but everything is possible. If he leaves the Premier League he will play in Italy or Spain.

“I saw my client the other day and he was enthusiastic about both Napoli and Italy in general. So far we have received an offer worth £10m. He wants to play for one of the top five Italian clubs.”

Don't disagree...just stating that at his age, he needs to play..he's actually not a bad player when he gets games

Why are the sh*t players always the loyal ones?

It's hard to villify Djourou because he's been in and around the team a long time and probably has a strong sense of home at Arsenal but it's equally hard to love him when he lets the ball bounce in the box.

Djoruou might be a decent player and given n extended run might find his way into a quality player.

The problem is he is the sort of player who you could give time to develop in a squad and team like we had in 2004.

But the quality around a player like him is so much poorer by comparison to in 2004 that it can only highlight magnify or even maximize his lack of development into that very top level of player at this point in time.

Every team has a shite player or two or even a relatively shite player. Our problem is we have ten or twelve of those players in our current squad as opposed to having two or three from 2002-2004

He pledged his bloody future with us when he signed a bloody contract.

They`ve been bullshi*t stories, he`s not been unhappy playing 2nd fiddle @ Arsenal, on about 40 or 50k a week.

Like I said in the `End Of Season Report`, I don`t think he`s got it in him to overtake the 3 in front of him now, so if he`s happy to play as 4th choice, he`s a strong 4th choice.

Arsenal are going to win a BIG trophy this season.

Arsenal is a top 16 European club that will remain a top 16 European club and the Emirates is tape-loop that will win trophy after trophy

Nothing will change to stop Arsenal's domination except the ticket prices which must go up so that Wenger can make even more marquee signings.

Kroenke, Gazidis & Wenger are made for each other a glorious triumvirate heading for immortality.

Arsenal’s not a football club it is the one true religion Milton Palmer

I dont consider him a bad player.

2 years back everyone rated him.

Played most of his games last season at full back, which everyone seems to forget.

Describing someone as 'Decent and S.hit' in same sentence is quite incredible... he's a f.uckin liability, why would you even want someone like that anywhere near your starting line-up?

We've done way worst at 4th choice before, 4 times as good as Squillaci and Silvestre.

Which fourth choice is better than him in the league? None!

Its beause of 4th choice'rs like Djourou that we are considered a third and fourth placed team in the league.

Good. I like him to stay and provide adequate cover at the back as I do not want Squillaci anywhere on the pitch in an Arsenal jersey.

As a defender, especially still a young-ish one, you cannot expect to play every now and then and perform to a high level.

Defenders need consistency and regular game time. It's one of the reasons senderos often struggled during his latter stages here. When he played reguarly in kolo's absence he and gallas bossed everything. It was the same with djourou and Kos last season before his injury at old traffold (fa cup)

I have been OVERLY dissapointed with him this season. I will not lie about that. But like celine says, he is not a bad player.

Similar to fabianki, for the good of his career, he needs to move on. The same goes to diaby too.

I think that is true enough although that is where the injuries get us. When you have the kind of drop iooff inquality from the bench we now have combined with the lack of eeesufficient quality in the first eleven you expose the frailties of everyone on the bench.

Go back to Old Trafford in 2002 - no Henry, No Vieira, No Adams, No Pires, no Bergkamp - and we comfortably best the three-time defending champions and danced on their pitch as we took their trophy. think about those names and how well they played in 2002 how brilliantly in several cases.

Nowadays we miss a key starter maybe two and we have to salvage a stoppage time draw with Everton at home as we did a year ago.

That says it all about our squad's quality and the quality of our depth.

His positional play at CB is abysmal, just abysmal, and he's got that 'I don't know what I'm doing' look.

I don't trust him as a defender. Midfielder anyone?

He started out as a DMF. Been at the club since he was 15yrs old.
I donno, I think back to how bad he was at OT last season and think, those 2 Swiss CBs we bought back then have both been underachievers.
