Alan Dzagoev lined up as Andrei Arshavin's replacement at Arsenal

Arsenal are ready to cut their losses on Andrei Arshavin and replace him with his Russian international team-mate Alan Dzagoev.

.In February Arshavin re-joined Zenit St Petersburg in a loan deal that will expire after Euro 2012, but the Gunners are prepared to listen to offers for a permanent transfer for the 31-year-old.

Despite Arshavin's failure to adapt to the English game, Arsene Wenger's team are said to be ready to invest in Dzagoev, who many people see as his compatriot's eventual successor in the national team.

The 21-year-old scored a brace in Russia's 4-1 demolition of the Czech Republic in the second game of Euro 2012 on Friday.

Despite his young age the attacking midfielder has already played more than 100 games for CSKA Moscow and scored five goals in his first eight caps for the national side.

Although Dzagoev could be available on a cut price deal with his contract due to expire at the end of next season, Arsenal could yet face competition for his signature from London rivals Chelsea.

The Blues are currently in rebuilding mode and are especially looking for reinforcements in attack, and Dzagoev - a self-confessed Chelsea fan - could fit the bill.

I dont want Dzagoev. He's frankly a good and young player, plus I like the Russia national team. Therefore if he moves here, he'll end up screwed in a couple of years. I don't think Wenger has the capacity to produce good players anymore.

This guy definitely catches eye, but he has one very big similarity with Arshavin!! I heard pre-match expert opinion that Alan Dzegoev is very highly rated in Russia and kept an eye on him, he started well got a goal quickly but in the 2nd half disappeared entirely and then came back suddenly with a goal.

Definitely a very talented youngster but if he's your main creative AM, you wouldn't like him to disappear in games too often.

What a pile of bull$hit thing to say. Yeah, let's not buy any young, talented players then. I'm sure that'll set us straight for the future!!!
