This is the board where Arsenal fans can discuss all things Arsenal, and any other football issues that they feel are of interest to Gunners. Opposition fans are welcome, but remember this board is from an Arsenal point of view. Off Topic Discussion should take place on the Off Topic Forum. Off Topic discussion will be removed. Any topic that is football related, within reason, is not off topic.
Again the question is will sacking him make a difference?
Is the Club ready and willing (we know they are able or else Arsenal is football's version of ENRON) to change what clearly are failed transfer and wage policies? I suspect the amswer is no ot this poll would be a year or two maybe more even too late.
I think its moot to debate the managerial change without a real sense of what the Club is ready and willing to. God, the Creator of the Universe could take over with Jesus Christ as his number two (apologies to practicing Christianes or any strongly religious people) and accomplish no more than Arsene Wenger has since 2005 if the Club persists with these policies.
So even if you call for the manager's sacking that alone is a pointless cal. There needs to be real pressure placed on the Club to with the Current manager or any new manager to seriously revise the current failed policies and only then can we get out of this cycle of frustration and disappointment.
Our expectations for next season depend entirely on what kinda transfer window we have.
Firstly Van Persie needs to stay, that's paramount but if we manage to get a few of the names we've been linked with then yeah, I expect a title-challenge with longevity and some form of silverware.
I personally believe we've got the manager, just the squad is desperately thin in some area's and it needs to be addressed before we can put the last seven years behind us and focus on being a domestic force again.
If he gets a trophy next season, ideally EPL but FA cup wld do good, he gets to stay on for his final year of the contract in which EPL is mandatory.... and if he wins EPL in his last year(after which our commercial deals r up for renewal), club shld think abt extending the contract.... successful business work on KPI.... fulfill ur KPI and u get another bite at the cheryy
There is a difference between challenging for the title and winning it. Even with the additions that we are linked to, even with Van persie staying, what if we compete in all competitions like last season only to lose it all again and finish 3rd/4th? Its just going to take one ong term injury to podolski for us to becoem mediocre again next year even after signing those players. Dont expect wenger to sign someone in january if that happens.
I think what we care about is efforts in the right direction, which has not been the case for past few seasons,
Given the spending pattern for arsenal, the new manager will not be as successful as arsene, as this is his squad.
I'd rather see him see out his contract, preferably winning silverware and saying goodbye on a high, not extending his contract even if we win the league in his final year.
That way we have some transition period where we are looking ahead to life without him. And I dont think he should pick his own replacement, but then the other decision makes dont look that bright either
wat is important is getting is that he has a strong squad that can cope with multiple trophy like we did with the invincibles he needs to get rid of park squillachi bendtner almunia denilson and some others forgot and buy fresh class players that can do a great job if theres injuries and he needs tatical flexablity
I dotn think invincibles could cope with 4 competitions either. Henry played 90 min for arsenal almost every game as did viera adn co. Barrign freddie, pires, reyes, we didnt have 'high' quality options on the wings in a 4-4-2 mind you. It was just a fitter squad which didnt go down to small niggles barring injuries like the one to pires.
They too used to get tired and that coupled with Dennis not flying made us unsuccessful in europe. Otherwise that team was good enough to win UCL, but during that time we always played full strength teams domestically and the league was always top priority for wenger.
We sturggled as soon as henry had the sciatic nerve pbm.

Interestingly enough in 2004 we obviously won the Premiership, but we also reached the FA Cup Semifinals, The European Cup Quarterfinals narrowly losing both narrowly and lost to Middlesbrough in the Carling Cup Samifinal as well, and this was with the smallest squad Arsene Wenger ever used (though we did use additional players exclusively in the Carling Cup).
So I think while winning a quadruple may be a bit much to ask for any squad even nowadays we could build a squad capable of competing for two or even three trophies every season and winning one every second or third year at least.
We are able to do this quite effectively from 1998-2005 on an average spend of of SIX MILLION ponuds per YEAR. Could we do it on six million a year now? Probably annually of 12 million pounds per year.
So it CAN be done. Does anyone at Arsenal want to do it? We need to know the answer before we move forward with any manager really if we want to actually move forward.
