well the one picture they did show of him, he looked like his leg was shaking and he couldn't role over to his side. The thing about a seizure is that you snap out of it quick or things can get really complicated very quickly...really hope he pulls through.

Re: fabrice muamba

Btw -As an Epileptic (seizure free for well over a decade now)let's hope it is a seizure because as scary as they look(the lucky thing for me was I never knew when it would happen - just felt really, really tired)so long as he didn't hit his head (concussive injury) or swallow his tongue he should be all right once he is taken to hospital and and stabilized. He is lucky to have had it on ther pitch as well if that is the case because he could have suffered far more serious injury otherwise.

Let's hope and pray it's a seizure.

My heartfelt sympathies Jack. That is a terrible thing to have to endure When I was younger I was always intructed to to keep a spoon close by precisely to prevent that. I still worry about that now even though I am probably seizure-free and have luckily not had one in over a decade now. It's awful really. I'm blessed in that the worst injury I have ever suffered is concussion myself.

For people in the know, what are the actual causes of seizures? Apart from epilepsy.

I am hardly in the know other than my own illness tbh. but I do know that an injury or lsion or growth of some kind in the brain can inhibit natural brain activity resulting in seizures.

When Sen Kennedy had his fatal tumor they only discovered it after his suffered a couplke of seizures because it was impeding the natural brain activity

It's all very odd really. In my case I still take medication only because my doctors could not pinpoint an actual cause to my seiziures. There fore thay cannot determine even now that I am seizure-free though that almost certainly appears to be case now (touch wood). I've been very very lucky though because as benign as this sort of problem can seem I think we all now know how awful it can really be.

A seizure is abnormal electrical activiy in the brain, epliepsy is one cause. Heart attacks, mineral imbalance and scores of other causes exist.

Just asking because footballers are some of the healthiest people you'll ever meet. Was wondering if stress could bring it on. The little I read didn't mention mineral imbalance though.

Radio, if they can't determine what your problem is what do the meds actually do? If you don't mind me asking.

Re: fabrice muamba

No worries 80's - the idea is they offset the abnormality, control and minimize it. In have had more than a few seizures where when I was younger I neglected taking the medication and paid the price for that. I actually missed my high school graduation because I had one, and then on the day I was supposed to take my driver's test I had one just before we were leaving for DMV. I could get my licence still but I took that as a sign.

Hate to say it but that is exactly what I feared. That's what happened with Michael Jackson last year. They didn't want to announce anything until his family arrived. Thank God we were wrong though I wish either the Bolton Site or Sky Site would confirm this.

Cheers for the link btw.

I was afraid that report might be premature. And obviously it's his heart. Poor lad. Very scary lots of kids walk around completely unaware usually of how vulneribale they are. I knew a kid. at college We were both freshman and a few years later afetr transferring he had one heart attack then thought he had medication that would prevent another happenming but he had another attack and died.

Hope Fabrice gets the best possible trestment now and if he recovers sufficienmtly the best advice going forward.

I know he's not out of the woods yet but in many respects he's been very lucky. This could potentially have happened at any random point in his life but as it was he was within maybe 100 metres of a cardiologist when he needed one. Hopefully that massive slice of luck makes the difference for him.

Re: fabrice muamba
RadioFreeArsenal 18 March, 2012 00:48
You are right Ebroactos. This was probably a matter of when rather than if in this instance, and he was very very lucky in that regard.

And this doesn't get said too often but the referee did a really terrific job. I think the fact that Mr. Webb is a policeman really served the situation well. Well done, Mr. Webb.

Re: fabrice muamba

I just found out about this. It's horrific and has happened too many times in recent years.

Jack so sorry about your brother mate, that's too harsh for words.

A friend of mine died of heart related problems last year at pre season training. Just collapsed in front of us. Was captain of our semi pro team and of a local cricket team too. Fit doesn't do enough to describe him but they obviously missed something. He was 26. It's hard not to think of him now.

Prayers and hopes with fabrice.

Actually reports today suggest that yesterday's story about a cardiologist in the crowd coming on to the pitch to treat him might not actually be true. Weird how people make up stuff like that.
Anyhow,if it was going to happen at some point at least it was this and not when he was driving/sleeping etc.

Re: fabrice muamba
RadioFreeArsenal 18 March, 2012 14:48
In any event there were emrgency personnel with the proper equipment present and he was at least so far very, very lucky for that. As you say there were far worse situations in which this could have happened.
