Belgium ignore Arsenal worries over Vermaelen

he starts tonight for them

Djourou meanwhile has dropped out of the Swiss squad due to hamstring injury, could be out a month

Santos back in light training, could be back in two weeks

*Signing Ozil is a signing Bergkamp type moment for Arsenal. It changes things utterly.*

As usual Ive got a baaaad feeling about these international matches, especially RvP playing against players, who shall we say might see it in the best interest of their clubs, should he not walk off the pitch in one piece.
Gervinho takes the biscuit though, hes just back after reaching the final of a major tournament.

Don't belgium have a history in this sort of thing?

Personally I'm more concerned about tiredness and lack of preparation for the pool game. We dont often seem to do well after international games

well vermaelen if he is carrying a knock, should be saying to belguim im not fit to play

he owes arsenal after missing a whole season through injury

same with RVP, it hink rosicky pulled out for czech repbulic

good news about djourou, the further he is away from the 1st team the better!!

Re: Belgium ignore Arsenal worries over Vermaelen
SandyB 29 February, 2012 09:30
lol, you want every player to declare themselves injured to avoid playing international matches!!

Their FA do have some docs too, right!

Every team has players on international duty, chill man. (Sm105)

Re: Belgium ignore Arsenal worries over Vermaelen
crumps 29 February, 2012 09:58
no i dont mind them playing internationals

i just dont want to see players that are carrying knocks travel across europe to play in a friendly

belgium havnt qualified for the euros so its a waste of time

and as for holland - RVP is their main striker, they know he will be defo be in the squad for the euros, so why aggrevate the injury even more!!

Re: Belgium ignore Arsenal worries over Vermaelen
SandyB 29 February, 2012 11:01
Of course if there is injury they shouldn't play be it for club or country but normally the amount of resource any country need to put before a player to be considered playing a league like PL they will definitely ask for their return too. I think they should reduce the mid season friendlies in Europe, that might make more sense.

Who's got the greater rights over a player? The country that raised him or the team that pays his wages?

I remember Stuart Pearce saying England should he the one questioning Arsenal why Wilshere isn't fit yet.

Well, Arsenal football club gave him his football education and pays his salary. England provided the school education and run the country he lives and grew up in. Who has the greater right over the player?

Those who pay for him to look after his kids.
No question.

80's I don't want to go into the country vs club debate.

But one thing for sure, if you think countries have no contribution for developing footballers then probably you wouldn't see Gervinho or Demba Ba in Premier league.

I don't know the contribution of moneybag FA about developing footballers in England or probably clubs take a major role in developing players in many other European countries but that's not the case in most part of the world, cos the major sports infrastructure and even funding of clubs are still being taken care by state.

So looking from who's paying Gervinho's million $ salary right now wouldn't make much sense in broader context.

surley its the people who pay the players wages who should have full right to say yes he is avaliable or no he isnt

if the dutch fa want to pay 50% of rvp wages to have the same right to say he is or is not avaliable then send them the invoice!!!

I'm not set on either side of the fence tbh.

Actually Pearce said Arsenal should rest Wilshere during the season si he'd be fresh for England. A bit cheeky to me. If Ivory Coast or France said that about Gervinho or Kos, again still cheeky.

Did he really say that!! lol.

No one will do that, but I'm talking about football isn't just all about making money or playing in top European leagues, most of the countries systems produce footballers which marquee clubs need and to keep the cycle going once these players become stars they play a major contributors role for generating interest become role model create coaching and other opportunities and hell lot more.

Imagine if Argentina didn't give a damn about football and Diego Maradona didn't become a fanatically cult hero in Buenos Aires probably there wouldn't be any Messi today.

No matter what you say Sandy, a club should have greater control over a player than the govt of his country.
What is good though is, every case should be treated on its context and merits.

Re: Belgium ignore Arsenal worries over Vermaelen
SandyB 01 March, 2012 08:05
I'm not talking about governments, lol. But in most of the cases in most part of the world clubs still don't have the means to develop players in any sports. Some form of sports academy funded by the state agencies or by FIFA or whoever actually runs the show.
What I think is the club football we are familiar with be in Premier league, La liga or Serie A they only care about their interest of winning trophies, making money or keeping the fans happy, the glamour world of sports.
International sports play a much broader role and if a player isn't retired from international sports and decided only to play in club level they do have the responsibility as a citizen of their country who has given them the head start towards what they are today.

If the big clubs start dictating terms when to play international matches and who they are or aren't going to release that will actually trigger a sad day for the game of football itself.

Unless you are from a country, who are well off, have a good sports infrastructure and established club leagues the game is going to go for a natural death there.

No matter how big a fan you are of Arsenal or Barcelona or AC Milan the mass population of a country look up to their own stars and still share the joy or sorrow of where their sentiments are deep rooted.

Do you think, if they play ACN every four years and then the big clubs start dictating Adebayor, Drogba or Gervinho shouldn't be released for the tournaments or friendlies there will be any interest among mass populations about those meaningless games?
The future generation in other parts of the world wouldn't look up to John Terry or Cesc Fabregas of their time and play football in Costa Rica or Iraq, they need some of their very own to be represented in the game to generate proper interest.
