Five points for Arsenal board to consider as Stan Kroenke prepares to jet in for talks with Arsene Wenger
Arsenal's failed season will be top of the agenda when the club's board meets. Jeremy Wilson lists what should be the key talking points...

Food for thought: Stan Kroenke (left) is due to fly into London Photo: PA

1. Constructive support for Arsene Wenger
George Graham was right when he observed that Arsene Wenger remains very powerful at Arsenal. In one sense that is a good thing, but the danger at Arsenal has been of almost blind support for their manager.

Wenger sometimes needs pushing over the line when it comes to spending big money and he should also be encouraged to evolve and freshen up his coaching team.

2. Overhaul the wage structure
It is bizarre to hear stories of Arsenal being reluctant to push the boat out in salaries for players of established quality, yet so generously reward unproven or average squad players.

This has drained the club of resources on players who they no longer need and are struggling to sell - such as Nicklas Bendtner, Manuel Almunia and Sebastien Squillaci - while struggling to compete on wages for genuine stars. The wage structure should be more closely aligned to performance.

3. Strengthen squad with established quality
The Arsenal model is not completely wrong - it has just been pushed too far to an extreme. The club are right to focus heavily on recruiting potential stars but they must better balance the squad with players of proven quality.

Spurs have shown that adding players like Scott Parker, Rafael van der Vaart, William Gallas and Brad Friedel does not detract from young players but actually helps them

4. Improve commercial revenues
This is perhaps the key focus for Stan Kroenke and Ivan Gazidis. While Arsenal remain among the leading clubs for generating matchday revenue, they lag behind Manchester United on their commercial deals. The good news is that many of their main deals are up for renewal over the next few years and so there is real scope to grow.

The club must also continue to expand overseas and, in that regard, they are planning trips to China, South Korea, Hong Kong and Nigeria this summer

5. Get the feel-good factor back
The hike in ticket prices last season could not have been worse timed and caused significant unrest among fans. It has left supporters feeling like they are taking for granted; that they pay among the highest prices in the world and yet the club do not use the money to adequately invest in the squad.

Ticket-prices are an important element of the club's income but a relatively small reduction could be priceless in improving the matchday mood inside the Emirates.

*Signing Ozil is a signing Bergkamp type moment for Arsenal. It changes things utterly.*

This is one of the better pieces I have seen at least in terms of analysis.

The thing is that addressing points 2 and 3 will go a long way toward addressing points 4 and 5 as well, and that we could see this two or three years ago if not five or six years ago even. This is why I say these questions exist. If even a few supporters could see this how couldn't a Board of Directirs whose job it and obligation was to see this sort of thing see it?

The same would apply to Number 1 assuming the conclusion made there is accurate. Surely someone at the Club had to see this and say somehting. Surely the Board then had to see it and do something yet they didn't. Why not? And how did they happen to make almost 400 million pounds in spite of that?

There are really only two likely answers given what we know. One which I fear, and a second which is even worse

Looks like they are SERIOUS!!

I think Emirates n Nike are dying to multiply 100 times the sponsorship money to fill Stan Kroenke's pocket!

I think they are going to change their slogan 'Fly Emirates in Wenger we TRUST' and will pay 100 million a year just to buy the brand.

As far as Nike is concerned, they are planning to have 'There is one Arsene Wenger' t-shirt selling $100 a piece in China n Hongkong.

Kroenke is coming over the week we are announcing 50 million profit, he will come here for a photo and remind everyone what a great business we are running. Properly a statement on the home page thanking every for their support (spending) and keep supporting (spending) and everything will be fine

Arsene Wenger is the only stable brand of Arsenal. Henry, Fabregas, RVP we all know what happened and what's going to happen.

I mate a young guy in his 20's yesterday in a restaurant in Singapore. He was wearing a MLS, white NY Red Bull T-shirt with Henry 14. I asked him are you a Red Bull fan? I mean that's pretty weird, cos there isn't any MLS match telecast in Singapore. He told me he's Henry fan since he was 10 years old.

He was Arsenal fan when Henry was in Arsenal, then a Barca fan when he was in Barca and then now a MLS fan. I mean what I understood is he spends money to buy shirts whichever club Henry plays.

Arsene is the last CULT brand left with Arsenal. I don't think Stan Kroenke will ever fire Wenger that's the end of his $$ coming from Arsenal.
