for me it has to be a quality striker, and not a short term loan like TH, but someone who we can trust to get us goals long term

Agreed eduardo, we need a quality striker who can get us goals.

We also need to go back having two strikers upfront leading the line.

if we were to go to two up top I would rather we sign hazard for right wing and put theo up top with RVP

we will not be going back to 4-4-2

tbh there were times today where gervinho was playing exactly next to van persie with benyaoun and rosicky interchanging across the pitch.

The midfield was similar to 07/08 but without fabregas' quality and goalscoring ability

Depends if we're talking about squad depth or adding quality to the starting XI.

If it's squad depth then yeah I'd go along with the centre-forward votes, easily weakest position in the squad.

But if it's adding quality to the starting XI then I pay close attention to the attacking-mid role ahead of a striker and question Ramsey's importance and to be honest with everybody fully fit there's ten players in the starting XI more key to the team's performance than Ramsey.

Winger or AM and simply pray RVP stays fit.

wenger says he will not be buying a midfielder in January

Re: Poll: Most pressing need

GRU the poll is not about who wenger might buy, but what positions posters think is most needed to be bought for

Striker..

Re: Poll: Most pressing need
Beyond 28 December, 2011 05:08
Without shadow of a doubt, a striker. But knowing wenger it probably won't happen as he will say we have got park, Ox and arshavin

Re: Poll: Most pressing need
Indiangooner 28 December, 2011 05:33
Full time Forward(no patch up work for 2 months) who can also play in the wings so that we can rotate 4 players for 3 positions with Ox Benayoun Rosicky as back up.... secondly an experienced attacking mid who Ramsey wld support and with JW coming back in Feb we can hv 3 good players competing with each other..... an emergency full back on loan

Re: Poll: Most pressing need
Bergmars 28 December, 2011 07:20
A goalscorer because without RVP we do not have a consistent one.No short term fix either.

Re: Poll: Most pressing need
karteta16 28 December, 2011 09:01
A striker will be bought to play like yesterdays game, when Wenger's already played plan A which is the Arshavin sub and nothing still has worked. I think buying a player that will improve the first team will be a better option, we're not really going to improve on RVP so we have to get players better than or equal to Gervinho, Walcott, Arshavin, Ramsey, Arteta, song etc.

Re: Poll: Most pressing need
weedz 28 December, 2011 09:12
If either AA and/or Chammy leave, it will give Wenger the `out` to buy a striker, which is the position most required. Other-wise it wont happen. We`d pay over the odds if we`re forced to buy Podolski in the Jan window

However I`m sure he will have to either loan or buy cover for the LB spot. Because without our fullbacks going forward, we`re not firing on all cylinders, we`re not functioning properly.

Since the end of WW1, 1919, when the FA restarted its 4 tier football league, with Arsenal fc in the 1st div, there’s only ever been one club to have never been relegated from Div 1/ EPL.

Let’s keep making history

Loan a leftback, sign a striker to replace chamakh and if we have too much money we sign a wide attacker. Is that too much to ask?

Re: Poll: Most pressing need
hippogunner 28 December, 2011 09:49
Yes, because Wenger is manager.

You only have to compare Redknapp's recent comments regarding strengthening his squad and our dead loss of a manager to be utterly furious.

Re: Poll: Most pressing need
De Times 28 December, 2011 10:05
Are you saying wenger has money but is refusing to spend? Do you have prove? No conjecturing.

Re: Poll: Most pressing need
hippogunner 28 December, 2011 10:15
Of course he's got money to spend. He's said so himself on numerous occasions. Or has he just rescinded all those statements?

Re: Poll: Most pressing need
Nikfonso 28 December, 2011 10:17
Our defence has been the most solid it has been for years. We need a goal scoring mid-fielder or an attacker who can do both roles.

Money to spend De Times? They must bath in fking money.

The proof if before the sales of Nasri and Fabregas we had a transfer kitty. Gazidis and Wenger kept saying the money is there. Add the transfer profit from this summer there must be at least 400 squillion pounds to spend.

Either that or they are fking liars.

we need a striker, we have nothing coming off the bench

wenger only gave chamakh 5-10 mins which just shows that he doesnt have much confidence in him as he would have got longer time on the pitch

Oxlade needs to be given more chances aswell as park

And in our budget. Well done GRU. You've solved some of our problems.

since birmingham 08 we have been in desperate need for an out and out goalscoring centre forward.

Re: Poll: Most pressing need
Flava 28 December, 2011 12:00
Like Van Persie?

Re: Poll: Most pressing need
Ares 28 December, 2011 12:41
Like Mario Gomez
Like Diego Forlan
Like Nicholas Anelka

To cover for the 50 to 75 games RVP missed through injury in the last two and a half seasons.

Imagine every time Chamakh or Bendtner was in with a chance these last 3 years

it wasn't Chamakh or Bendtner

Imagine if it was

Darren Bent with the chance

Or if it was

David Villa

All guys we could and should have brought in when Ade stopped performing and we got a lot of money for him and did not replace either him or eduardo

A guy like Louis Saha would have grabbed a goal for himself at Barcelona the first time when Clichy sent a long pass over everyone, just like he did for eduardo at Everton . Saha would also have made that tap in the second trip to youknowwho.

Freddie Kanoute and Obafemi Martins would have put that away

Even Solomon Kalou would have put that away.

We have needed 3 strong striking options for a long time now

Not just 1

(who we all know is high maintenance)

Re: Poll: Most pressing need

We talk as if Ronaldo and Messi are out and out strikers or don't get goals, with another proper winger would give more opportunities score and players like chamakh or park may be able to finish moves off.

Instead of Ramsey and Rosicky spending 90mins hitting and hoping we could get a goalscorer/provider in there also.

Spot on, Ares.

Re: Poll: Most pressing need
hahanice 28 December, 2011 20:00
I agree with everyone saying we need a forward... RVP is the only person who knows how to put the ball in the back of the net... TV5 is the only other player who remotely knows how to, and that is worrysome.

with that said, if madrid want to be rid of Kaka, why not go ahead and buy him opposed to letting chelsea take him
