Fabrice Muamba shows 'small signs of improvement'

Fabrice Muamba's heart condition is "showing small signs of improvement" following the Bolton player's cardiac arrest at Tottenham.
A Bolton statement said: "His heart is now beating without the help of medication and he is also moving his arms and legs."

Good news at last.
Let's hope he carries on showing enough small signs to make a full recovery.
Good luck to him.

That certainly is good news.

but, like an article over the weekend said - the critical organ for his recovery right now is the brain, not the heart.

Telegraph said on twitter that he began to speak minimal words in English and French.

We will know a lot more at 9pm, but signs are good

Arsenal is a top 16 European club that will remain a top 16 European club and the Emirates is tape-loop that will win trophy after trophy

Nothing will change to stop Arsenal's domination except the ticket prices which must go up so that Wenger can make even more marquee signings.

Kroenke, Gazidis & Wenger are made for each other a glorious triumvirate heading for immortality.

Arsenal’s not a football club it is the one true religion Milton Palmer

Great news if he's awake and showing signs like those.
I've said it plenty already, but be strong Fabrice. It's in your nature after all the $hit you've been through, just keep doing what you do!!.

He has had visitors, he is now breathing without a ventilator. Essien confirmed that he has spoken in both French and English. He recognises all his visitors, but is still seriously ill.

Keep hearing that he is 'seriously ill' but what does that mean specifically?

There are no specifics to that general term. I think what they mean is his body has undergone serious stress and he probably still has an element of heart failure if not other systemic/organ dysfunction. So whilst things look promising at the moment the extent of rehabilitation he can achieve is far from certain and indeed things may even regress.
My experience is that getting the patient off the ventilator and inotrope support is 90% of the battle for survival at least so without any other information things do look positive indeed.

He was also deprived of oxygen, he has had a seizure, this means his brain has suffered damage. This will leave him exhausted and his brain will need to reorientate.
It may not be known what caused the cardiac arrest, they will have to investigate and stop it happening again.
