We've hammered Sp*rs, beaten Liverpool away and cleaned out Milan in the space of 10 days and you're still b*tching, arguing and moaning.

What does it take to satisfy some of you?

I think it must be for us to finish about 7th, so you can say 'I told you so, but I only want what's best for Arsenal!!' with a smug, self-satisfied smile on your stupid faces.

Like you know what's best.

But Jack actually hasnt been rude at all lately. Theres radiofreearsenal who thinks things are very very bad, but he doesnt really amount to 'you people'. I have been working on a reply to your post about how nonwe of this is black-and-white and stating my agreement with that view Simon, and then you post about as black-and-white an anlysis of all this you possibly could.

The fact is you are saying we should cease to question how the club has been run the last six years is being run now or even how it may be run the next six years on the back of two weeks and three matches. And not only didn't we win a trophy but even in a brilliant effort against AC Milan we were eliminated from the last chance we had to win one. Yet you insist there is no reason to complain after six years of this and ahead of maybe another sizx years or more of it beased on two weeks and accuse those who don't see it as you do of seeing it only as black-and-white? Remarkable really...

I predicted we wont win league this year, I predicted we wont win league last year.

I want a management and directors who have an ambition to win the league. Arsenal is a big club I dont believe that going 7 years without a trophy is acceptable.

It is possible we will now get a place in top four, I do hope so, but I wouldnt celebrate yet. Places and prizes are awarded in May not early March.

I dont know who these people are, its certainly not me as I get no enjoyment from failure, I cant stand losing a reserve game, but I dont consider 3rd and 4th year in year out a trophy, there should be more to it than that. I believe Wenger is a busted flush who will never win another trophy for Arsenal, but I would love to be proved wrong. And if we do win a trophy I will celebrate it as hard and as long as anyone else.
Why shouldnt I? When I started following this club it wasnt for the manger or the board.

This isn't correct, probably not rude to you, but he came up with a thread straight at me after the Milan 2nd leg, when I didn't even bother responding to him for a long time.

He's the guy who said, when Milan draw was set that, Arsenal is going to shi.t all over Milan. I didn't start a thread to tell him how big a muppet he looked like after the 1st leg.

The kind of things kid like Jack do here to prove that he's the biggest fan of the club and he's correct about his faith is understandable and which leave me no choice but to tell him on the face the actual reality of the outcome of the tie and I did it saying him the same thing what a Milan fan would have told him.

Anyway, people like Simon needs to understand in Arsenal, manager doesn't get fired or changes come easy. So the unhappy fans criticism only provide major checks to the clubs performance. If everybody sing the songs in praise like Simon be it win or lose, I don't think club will do any better than what they are doing.

good point Sandy, if no one complains then club gets more complacent, which it is enough already.

Wenger lived in denial last summer, Cesc isnt going, Nasri isnt going etc he told us. Only problem is they did go.
Sagna told Arsenal fans that when they went the team went into shock and it took them a while to recover. Obvious enough.
But if Wenger had replacements ready then team could have adjusted earlier and we wouldnt have worst start in 58 years.
By the way lets have some honest accounting - worst start in 58 years on the back of what Wenger had called his strongest squad ever.

A squad so strong that 10 left and 10 came in. Probably the biggest turnover in Arsenal's history - more chaos.

Not panic buys? Possibly not - but Benayoun not used until two thirds of way through season, and Park still not used.

No doubt it will be claimed it has all been some sort of cunning all knowing plan by Wenger.

So what did you 'moaners' vote in the early season poll?
Where will Arsenal finish this year.....
I said at least 4th and with a trophy. So i got the trophy bit wrong. Big whoop (wanna fight about it)?
If you said 5th or below, with no trophies you were half right.
And Simon is half right.
We should all be fu(king thankful we're back in with a chance of having St Totteringhams day considering where we were in November. In that much i'm with Simon.
Wenger got the transfer window wrong last summer. He's not stupid enough to go through all that again. His project will be adapted. He WILL be proactive this year, he's already admitted as much in saying we could have news on Podolski in a few weeks. We all keep saying we need 2 or 3 quality signings. It would appear that Wenger agrees. He's witnessed the events of the last 7 years too you know. Why not give the man some credit, and one more transfer window.
Mark my words.........This time next year, we will be fighting for the title again.

Now back to the subject - or close to it.

Simon I don't get the argument defending the Board because they didn't take dividends. The fact is it looks as if they made a lot more money be manipulating the Club's money, by limiting how of it was spent from 2005 on. Many investors do just this - they make money from their company's money rather than from their company's product.

So we have have this question. Would rather have the following

1) Shareholders taking 50 million pounds out of the club the last six six years but 18 million pounds a year more in transfer spending by the club - a net spend of 12 million pounds each year.

2) the Share price topping out at 5000-6000 per share before the club was sold off, netting shareholders profits in the range of 120-150 million pounds, but 12 million pounds more a year in transfer spending - a net spend of a bout 6 million pounds per year - the same level as from 1998-2005.

3) The share price topping out at 11700 punds per share before the club was sold, netting shareholders profits of about 300 million pounds in part because of limits on trnafer spending and top-end wages that resulted in a net transfer profit of six million pounds per year the last seven years now?

Would the Board and shareholders taking dividends have been worse for the club than the option they opted for? It is the sole reason they redeveloped Highbury by all indications since not one penny of that money has in fact been used either to increase transfer spending or decrease the stadium debt. Indeed the only part of our debt Highbury Square has paid for is fact the loan we took out to complete that single project. Classic stock doping by every indication we have.

There are two ways of making money out of the club, one is a dividend, the other is equity value. By not taking dividends they sent the value of the shares rocketing. They cashed in ok, including Dein, they all made a packet.
By choosing Kroenke they all ensured they had a job for life. I used to think Kroenke would get rid of them but does he need to?
They will do his bidding and keep up the appearance of the English Heritage that rich yanks love so much.

So all their piety about putting Arsenal ahead of themselves was as false as it sounded are an embarassment to those who made Arsenal the great club it was - and still is in spite of them - especially those who forebearers ran the Club before them. They should be made to feel the shame they deserve to,

I agree btw with your assessment about Stan Kroenke keepinmg thewm. One more reason we should go after them for what they did now even. That will undermine their ability to be cover for him.

Rockstaar, whats a flip flopper. If you mean I change my views, well, thats the best way isnt it. If someone (wenger, the club, anything really) surprises you and does not mess up the way you predicted, then you have to call it. Or you dont have to, but its better to.

Im still not Wengers biggest fan, he's messed up too many good opportunities for that. But based purely on this season, he has done very well to avoid the meltdown most of us predicted, considering where he was at the start.

Thing is, we arent serious journalists are we. im not writing for the guardian. I cant sit here with an agenda, my agenda doesnt matter. Wengers managed, somehow to get the team to stick 5 goals past Chelsea, 5 goals past Spurs, giving me one of the best days out in living memory, and knocked up a win at Anfield a week later. We're only a point behind Spurs. It makes me feel good, so to sit around being miserable would just seem a bit pointless. Yes, I was mightitly p*ssed off before, but Im not now. Theres no point carrying on being p*ssed off to prove some kind of point, that doesnt need proving in the first place.

I still reckon Wenger should go anyway, he's been around too long, the jobs affecting him, he probably doesnt have the ingredients to take us to the next level, he's a bit too set in his ways, whether the board will give him the money or not (we probably will never know) but he's actually done really well this season considering the players he lost. So maybe he should do another year then hand over to Jurgen Klopp and move upstairs.

Neat Celine - "I can't have an agenda" - then you lay one out anyway. Neat. Like most of the loyalists it seems you would rather turn on the players or manager than the Board even if the Board is actually to blame. Maybe we deserve this - some of us anyway - as long as that's the case. It's sad really but if you are willing to let the people you trust cheat you over and over and choose to blame others for it when they do maybe....where's the smack your head against a wall smiley?

Wenger is responsible for all the signings and the wages structure, and he has money to spend.
Gazides has said this again and again.

Now if it isnt true, and I think it is true, why wouldnt Wenger come out and deny it?

Wenger is the board's man because he is the man for the board.

Kroenke bought the club because he was impressed by what Wenger was doing.

I agree Mr. Wenger has been compromised by the Bioard and the high wages he is on.

He has to go if the policies do not change under him. But anyone who believes the policies would automtically change at all under the next manager is simply naive and setting themselves up to feel even more frustrated than they do now. Far more so in fact.

Fair enough in that I was commenting on a number of Gooners and not you specifically other than the whole no agenda b.s.

But I have enjoyed the last two weeks immensely as I posted earlier. Just because you are happy to ignmore the bigger picture and focus solely on the last two weeks don't tell me i ought to and unless you have been in the room with me, you have a lot of nerve suggesting I haven't enjoyed the past two weeks - which have been my best two weeks as a Gooner back to Jan of 2007. I take as much umbrage at you innaccurtaely suggesting I haven't enjoyed it as you do that I incorrectly suggested you slag the players personally.

Again when you say I have no agenda the blurt an agenda or demand that the record be corrected about you and inaccuarately represent my record right immediately afterward its not very cool.

Who's @#$%&, Simon?

People on here have different viewpoints, that's what it's like in the real world.

I tend to think that Wenger will never build a team good enough to win a trophy. We haven't even claimed a top four spot yet and some people are thinking we could win the league still. I think that's crazy but all credit to Wenger if we do.

We've had two good wins and one ok one, that being the Milan game. Sure we won 3-0 but we couldn't level the tie despite having a whole second half to do so. We went out, so it wasn't that good was it?

You have not peeped over the parapet all season and then suddenly you appear because we win three games. And then you wonder why we're "@#$%&" as you say. I don't know but I suspect it's something to do with all the poor results this season, remarkably like every other season since 2006.

And it's not all down to bad ref decisions as you have often claimed. Research every club's statistics re ref decisions before you claim we're the hardest done by. And also consider cause and effect which I explained to you many months back.

He certainly won't build a championship-winning team this way, Hippo. He's built a fair few the other more ambitious way, and not just in the Preniership.

The problem is and I hate thinking this even but it appears he took the money to cover the Board and their actions, and taking it now to cover Stan Kroenke's actions and that shows ultimiately it is plain greed on the part of alrady well-off that ultimately has put us in this position and if we continue to pretend otherwise by the time we finally acknowledge this almost certainty tthe club will be far, far worse off than it is now.

So it's what - 85 posts in?

And 'you people' don't get it.

Somewhere along the line I presume everyone followed or played or went to football because they enjoyed it. You may have been 5 or 15 or 50, it doesn't really matter.

You support a football team, in our case it's Arsenal. Well, I presume it is.

I've supported Arsenal since I was 7. That's 43 years of support. I get the right hump when we lose. My wife can tell whether we've won or lost just by my mood and sometimes when she hasn't even known we had a match.

Those who think I 'have not peeped over the parapet all season and then suddenly you appear because we win three games.' are talking out of their ar*ses. Surely the time to do that was when we were going from 17th to 4th which included a run of 9 wins and a draw out of 10 games? But hey, don't let the facts get in the way of your sh*te eh, hippo?

Those who for some mistaken reason think I defend Arsenal's Board at all costs and am some sort of a diehard AKB need to stop selectively reading. Just because I can accept we will lose some matches and don't have an automatic right to win trophies doesn't mean that I don't think that those in charge are exempt from criticism. But when I defend the Board it's generally on the basis of 'Thank f*ck we haven't got people in charge who put us massively in unrepayable debt/make us a laughing stock/can't organize the proverbial bunkup in a brothel/have to go hands on knees with a begging bowl/make an embarrassment of themselves/total chaos/crooks/dictators. Delete as appropriate. But it's also to do with what has been delivered by the likes of Friar and Fiszman when everyone said it was impossible and Dein wanted to rent Wembley from the FA instead. Ken Friar wasn't even a shareholder as far as I was aware and started in the Highbury postroom I think it was.

When I defend Wenger it's because of what he's done and what he's trying to do when under the financial constraints he's been under for 8 years particularly in the light of the ridiculous spending of the likes of Chelsea, ManCiteh, ManU, Sp*rs and Liverpool plus others. He could have taken the Real Madrid job at any time over the past dozen years or so, but didn't because of his love for the Club. His choice of player, choice of words at press conferences and his stubbornness sometimes annoy me, but no-ones perfect, not even you RadioFreeArsenal.

But I digress.

The plain and simple point I was making is that some of you are so busy being angry at this to do with Arsenal and that to do with Arsenal and each other (not that you can do anything about it), that you have somewhere forgotten that the lows will always outweigh the highs, and to enjoy the wins over the likes of Sp*rs, Liverpool and Milan in the space of a few days. It's wins in games like these that you should enjoy for what they are (I think Celine gets it) and put aside for a while the anger you feel at our Club and those with different views and stop the moaning and b*tching.

Besides, you should know by now I'm the only one allowed to do that.

I think the problem Simon is that the team and matches and the issues off the pitch are too different things. Being concerned about one even are bask in the glory of the other is not impossible as some seem to want to insist. As toyyourt description of your reasons for supporting the Boiard again your reasons are based on a false proisition - that we only have two choices moving forward - the way we moved forward or spending as much and as recklessly Chelsea and Man City and that is not honest let alone true.

Pretending that if the Board acted less out of personal self-interest was only protecting the Club from going bankrupt is aiding and abetting them in betraying all of us and our trust in them including most of all yourself if you genuinely believe all of that. There are as I suggested at least three different ways we could have moved forward without doing what Chelsea or City did and still operated profitably allowing the shareholders to earn some reward for their efforts over the years without having to further constrain our ability to compete on the pitch as you acknowldge the way we have operated has done

Curiously enough you missed that post I guess..

They are different things RFA, but don't miss the chance to take time out and enjoy the good stuff which right now happens to be going on out on the pitch and in the stands. Believe me, to be part of that at the Sp*rs and Milan games was something else.

And have I never suggested that the only way forward is the status quo or sugardaddy route. I just put forward some alternative ways other clubs do their business and by whom and suggested that ours isn't nearly so bad by comparison.

The notion that shareholders have taken money from the Club is wrong. They have made money from being shareholders of a business listed on the Private Stock Exchange. It's not the Clubs money and doesn't affect the financial figures the Club produces. Whether you like it or not, stock markets exist for people to buy into and make the most of. Personally, I don't like them, but there it is.

As for saying the only reason we moved to Ashburton Grove was so the shareholders could make loads of money? Whose idea was it? Arsene Wengers. Not anyone on the Board at the time. And the Club spent almost everything it earned on getting the Stadium built.

And the Highbury Square and other projects have paid off a large chunk of the debt which is down to a third of what it was a few years ago.

Which is doing precisely what you say you are not doing in the end. This is because you never discuss any alternative ways or endorse any alternative ways and are happy to accept the way they are doing things no matter without seriously considering such other alternatives or even happy to endorse the club making that very sort of statement in defense of its policies.

If you weant me to say you haven't used those exact words fine - Simon68 hasn't used the exact wprds in the exact order I previously posted above. But is your argument really any different from those words then?

Thing is I have never said they took money out of the club. Go ahead find where I said that. Indeed if anything I have said I would have preferred the Board pay out dividends to itself and othershareholders not sell the Club, and make more of the remaining money more readily available to invest in the football team.

There is no sin in the Board making some money for all the work it has done. Indeed they should get some financial reward for it from the Club. That has never been an issue for me.

For me the issue is this should these already terrifically well-off and wealthy individuals put making even more money for themselves by betraying the trust of the Club ahead of making a bit less money for themselves and honoring the commitments we trusted them to honor on our club's behalf. It's not like they would have gone broke or had their homes foreclosed on otherwise after all.

They still would have made a pretty healthy profit to be sure , whether they took dividends at a lower share price or sold at a lower share price. Why should they sell us a defective product simply to make even more money when they are already making plenty. This is purely greed at work here and that should be unacceptable to all of us.

And this is where the club's money comes in. The Board didn't take any of it but they manipulated most if not all of it to increase the share price and interest from investors in buying the Club. They used the club's equity to make their shares more valuable, and did this by limiting transfer spending among other things. They made money from the club's money not being spent any more than it was. As Chris Matthews among others nicely puts it they made money from money.

Simple question is that any less dishonorable or dishonest than taking dividends especially since that would allow the club to have made more money availble to spend instead?
