Looking at the number of women marching all over the country some of us were wondering where were they when Trump was tearing Hillary apart... lol. It's no joke we saw thousands of suburban moms with all sorts of posters came to Chicago full of trains. I could see in four years time another women challenging Trump, this time with support from women base which Hillary didn't have.
We could see Trump going slow on many of his key promises like building the wall n repealing Obamacare except signing some confusing executive orders which would be nothing in real terms in next two years.
TPP n NAFTA exit would be his populist spin but end of the day people will count how many jobs actually brought back. Soon it will be clear that running mouth on political rallies are far cry from doing the actual job with bunch of republican crooks who want to make big bucks just like the Neo liberals who were running democrats. Fun time ahead...

Moratorium.

which means temporary. It's quite clear that Steve Bannon wants a complete and permanent ban on immigration of any kind. This miserable attempt at an executive order was intended to be just the first step towards that.

However there are problems.

1) They don't have enough support among republicans to do anything like that.
2) They are too incompetent

It wouldn't surprise me if Trump gets bored with not getting his way and quits before his term is up. In a campaign, he could basically say what he wanted and he was vindicated by support in the polls. Actually passing legislation takes more effort, more compromise and more coalition building.

Before, he could say "we going to have a complete shutdown of muslims entering the US" and people cheered for him - instant gratification.

Now he tries to do it, it's gets bogged down in courts and there are protests across the world. If they want it to go through, they'll have to re-draft it, tone it down and even then it will still be challenged in the courts again and again. And that's just for an executive order. Imagine if he had to go through the effort required to build consensus in congress and the senate. I don't think he's going to be able to put up with all that.

Add to that the fact that his team seem incapable of following even the most basic rules, it's probably only a matter of time before he gets impeached for something or other

And yes, there's plenty going on in Sweden.

I'm not left or right wing. Those stupid terms limit intelligence. What I dislike is seeing a president pretend he's so anti-establishment when he's just another strand of the elite. You only have to see his taxation plans to see what people he wants to reward. The richest 1% will get a tax cut in the region of $200,000 a year. I'm sure they really need that.

Re: Happy Trump Day Everybody!

They should be getting tax cuts. Because the rate they were being taxed at was ridiculous. You can't morally defend taking more than 30/40% of somebody's earnings, let alone taking more because they happen to make more money.

Socialism always fails, and we are seeing that failing creep more and more into western countries as they have become more and more socialist over the past few decades.

Less socialism, more growth. Simple.

Thats nonsense Thomas.

The paradox of the Western world is that it is, or was, full of socialists, living in societies whose economies and governments operated under systems of extreme capitalism.

Socialism is a luxury, which one can get away with under these privileged economic circumstances. It is only for the fact that capitalism has started to fail, globally, that these luxuries of socialism are being confronted.

the term 'growth' is an absurdity promoted by the agents of extreme capitalism i.e modern banks. The worlds resources are finite, there is no 'growth', merely the ebb and flow of the markets.

If you think we live in, or have been living in, Socialist economies you need to read more books my man.

While we are about it I am certainly going to morally defend taxing 30-40% of someones earnings given that we are generally talking about corporations and extremely rich persons like Philip Green who have systematically amassed wealth via whichever nefarious and tax-evasive means they could whilst pleading poverty to the extent that the current perception of what should be the living wage for their employees in the UK currently does not allow someone to live in a house, eat food, and dress their children. Tom you need to fact check, Trump is one of those billionaires who payed zilt for taxes more than a decade, so yes neither corporations nor top 1% individuals pay fair share of their taxes. As Celine said, neither you nor I live in socialist world we do live in total capitalist world and I'm not so sure even if someone like Sanders become US president he could significantly alter anything as I always believe left gets sold out to corporates as much as the right. If you open your eyes will see Trumpism pro corporate capitalism with protectionist twist and populist demagoguery, rule by majority principles.

As a conspiracy believer I'd like to introduce to a new theory the rise of alt right and subsequent rise of sweeping state supported leftism in the mode of democratic socialism is another corporate plan to let people realize what havoc they could cause to maintain the status quo as well as people being more appreciative of their contributions. My theory in the current political cycle some part of the system will be fine tuned while corporates are their to stay but elitism will die. I expect a left cycle soon after this Trumpism.

I didn't say we lived in a socialist economy. I said we have socialist policies, and other left-wing extra curricular activities such as essentially open borders.

Is there anything less capitalist than the welfare state? It's the redistribution of wealth. It's pretty much communism. The way people make money through work is capitalism in the western world, but the other 50% of people rely on our socialist policies to get through the day. Policies that de incentivise the ambition to work for a living, or de incentivise companies from growing due to extra taxes.

Massive tax rates and welfare dependency are not the result of extreme capitalism. Maybe define some terms before talking about it?

Re: Happy Trump Day Everybody!

Open borders is a capitalist idea Tom, designed to flood the labour market with cheap labour. So this is where everything becomes a bit complicated.

And what is your proposal vis-à-vis the Welfare State? You don't seem very keen on it and if you are saying 50% of people depend on it then presumably you are referring to children, old people, as well as people who you know, don't have any legs and stuff. So what would you do with them? Put them out to work anyway? Down the coal mines? And what would you do with everyone's national insurance contributions, after you have done that? Give them to Donald Trump so he can build another gold skyscraper?

Re: Happy Trump Day Everybody!
Goofle (IP Logged)

I never said that open borders is capitalist, but it is more of a left wing ideology. Or Libertarian if you look at it from a different philosophical perspective.

As for welfare, I'm not arguing against it in all forms. My argument is that the "welfare state" is basically communism in nature, even if it legitimately helps people in the process. It's something that should seriously be looked at and refined. The problem is that the increased taxes, dependency and other social/economic issues created by the gigantic morphing of the welfare state make it harder for the problem to be solved.

There aren't enough jobs for people to get because companies have been strained to the point of 0 hour contracts and cutting costs. You could call them greedy capitalist pigs, but it's their business that they built. They are trying to get by in the current economy and resort to whatever measures it takes to make money.

You can legislate the redistribution of wealth, but you can't legislate human behaviour.

Open border is freaking capitalist thing, Tom. It was it is n it will be. In US, Republicans/conservatives are the biggest proponents of open border all the time n even if in Trump era many 'hispanic' people of certain ethnicity voted for Trump/republicans just to pay back what they owe to republicans.
Having said all these, I'm a great supporter as well as beneficiary of open border myself n used to be pro-republican all the time before Trump/alt-rights did a volt denying the history, To be honest in the context of US it's a pretty tricky topic for various reasons n I don't see a closed border US anytime soon.

Personally I'd like to see taxes of around 60% for those earning over £55,000 a year which is what my wife earns. Then perhaps this austerity nonsense programme this rotten government promotes might disappear. They haven't reached any of their targets and all they're doing is punishing the less well off with numerous cuts. The growth in the country has been the slowest since records began due to this crazy austerity policy championed by Osborne and now Hammond.

I have no idea who the Tories are actually for save maybe dumb patriotic Brexiteers and the old. They hammer the disabled, the poor, small businesses, those trying to buy their first homes and the NHS. And the sheeple still vote for them. I guess it doesn't help when Labour have gone AWOL.

I know someone who works within the social care system. She sees councils budgets slashed for those that are needy, she's seeing the slow destruction of the welfare state and the complete indifference by this government to address dire social issues.

And you think that is good, do you?

Socialism being harmful, you jest. There has hardly been a socialist policy of any note for years.
