pretty much..they are going to basically integrate all google products once you are signed in to your account to better serve you (according to them)

meaning that your email, youtube, google+,google search, maps and such will be crossed linked to create a more sophisticated profile of its users

in layman terms...your privacy is shot

Bet you this whole Levison enquiry + the new SOPA act = everything you do online policed every minute of every day no matter how innocent your activities. It's just a matter of time.

I think the only way to 'opt out' is to delete or unsubscribe from all google accounts.

why does no one seem to trust google or big business generally?

Google collect data on your ip so that they can make more money out of you through targeted advertising. What are google going to do with your personal data which will affect you personally? Unless you choose to give it to them they don't have any personal details like your home address, phone number, real name, any financial details etc.

Yes they collect alot of information but their goal isn't to destroy you! If they tried to use this data to do unethical or illegal stuff surely they would just get sued massively to the point of it not being worth it.

Usmanov having shares in facebook worries me more!

right Superrob thats why many countries and states are aggressively questioning their motives, some even saying it might break their privacy policies and may not be legal

I think you may be a little naive about the data that they can collect...and how easy it is to figure out exactly who you are

you know how many times I've been asked for my phone number for precautionary measures when I've logged into gmail

sometimes when you create a new account you have to put in a legitimate phone number...google voice needs a legitimate phone number also...data is going to be taken from your email, youtube views, google searches, google maps, your phone etc to create a better profile lol

I know, I've been asked for the same things every time as well. But I choose not to give them other email addresses or phone numbers.

I know what data they collect and how easy it is for them to build a profile of your online habits, my point is that they can't really do anything with it. Well, nothing that endangers your physical personal life. Online, to google, you are just a number. Obviously if they don't keep this data secure then it becomes a problem but other than that, it's just an inevitable part of the internet.

The other thing is that the unifying of privacy policies doesn't change the amount or type of data they can collect and the integration of accounts accross platforms is inevitable now that apple has showed how successful that can be.

Anyway there are probably firefox addons that can block google analytics and the like. And all browsers have private browsing that doesn't accept cookies so that could help also. I just don't think it's worth it personally.
