Long Run

How are the mighty fallen, a horse that beat Denman and Kauto Star in a Cheltenham Gold Cup, last seen running in the G1 Punchestown Gold Cup two years ago, re-appears in a Hunter Chase on a Sunday afternoon at Carlisle.

Still only an 11yo, should be a bit of mileage in it yet, but it's a bit like Wayne Rooney turning out for Padiham.

He was looking after a horse that clearly doesn't want to race anymore. Fair enough, but it should never have been back on a racecourse if it wasn't interested.

Schooling exercise, should never have been included in an official competitive race.

Just watched the race, Waley-Cohen put it into the race and gave it every chance, it was 3 to 4 lengths clear until it clattered the first down the back on the 2nd circuit. After that it's jumping went to pieces, two out it was legless and WC was right to lay off it in the last hundred yards. So what if it lost 3rd place, those moronic stewards want horse-whipping giving him 7 days for that, hopefully the lad wins his appeal, he did nothing wrong.

And just to illustrate what a bunch of half-wits are running racing, they banned the jockey of the winner for hitting his too often. What exactly do they want, do you look after horses, or run them into the ground ? They want to make their minds up ffs.

Just remembered something similar happening with another well loved horse getting past it's best, Kauto Star. Ruby Walsh pulled it up twice in it's last four races, and both times was praised for looking after the horse, putting it's well-being first.

I can't see that Waley-Cohen did much different, in fact he gave Long Run far more of a chance of winning than Walsh did both times with Kauto, but when the horse had clearly had enough he allowed it to down tools, just like Walsh did.

So why has he been treated differently ?

SWC and Nina Carberry can now ride in the Grand National, what a total farce this business has been, the old farts that make these stupid decisions in the first place are the ones that need banning.
