The Future

Here we are in our third season in the Premier League. Looks like we are going to have another year struggling to stay up. My question is:

What do you want for the future of BFC?

Obviously we all want the club to physically survive. My question is more around which League you want us in and what you consider as success / failure.

Great post, it’s a question which arises time and time again up here about my club, would be interesting to see what other fans realistically want from their club.

Good question Shanghai.. Here's my take on it..

The Premier league for me is a three tier league with us always in the bottom tier.(apart from last season).. That ain't going to happen again unless we get new owners as the board will not spend money on players.. It's boring to watch, but we really need to stop in as long as we can to earn the huge sums of money to guarantee our survival..We don't want to return to those days of nearly going out of the league again do we..

In reality , I really like the championship as its a level playing field for all clubs ,but there is always the chance of slipping down a division which we don't want.

My summing up would be try to stay in the Premier for as long as possible ,but if we go down ,go down with millions of pounds in the bank..

After watching us this season,I fear for us and hope we can avoid the drop..That will be a great achievement again if we can .. Let's get D4 and Brady back in the squad as we need some midfield creativity..

Millions of pounds in who’s bank?
Ain’t got a clue how Scottish fitba works, Dundee burst twice, Rangers burst now The Rangers, really don’t see how anyone with a business mind would get involved in football, unless there is a dodgy deal involved. Honestly if I won £100,000,000 on the euro lotto I think I would rather give it to the cats home rather than give it to ‘my team’.

Strange how life changes, remember when the lotto was £8 million every Saturday in the early days and I was going to ‘give it all away to my club’.
Older and wiser or young and stupid? Anyway I’m still a pauper.
I’d rather have ‘my’ millions in my bank account than some else’s.

Not socialist holding hands together now are we Jilts(Sm128) Tough question......my wish early days of being in prem was to be a successful yo yo club but I don't think we have the pieces of the jigsaw in place to be that.Staying in the prem brings some longer term benefits. Even if we go down the younger people who become fans in these years will tend to stick and we sorely needed to increase the intake. The positive benefits of our many years of success starting with the sherpa van at Wembley all the way to promotion to the prem thrice should not be underestimated in regards to the club and wider community.Where do we go from here, I suppose we keep on doing as we always have bloodying a few noses along our historic pathway. Unearthing a couple of Jamie Vardy types once in a blue moon would be a game changer for a period.

I think your premise is wrong Shanghai. I don't think we will struggle. My desire is for the Clarets to a mid-upper half side and have a good cup run inb the ext decade. With a fit Defour and brady plus the aquisition of Vydra I think we will achieve another good position this season.Alfie - the last thing we need is different owners. The stability they have achieved is exemplary.

I really hope you are right about this year Soapy. We really need three points on Sat against Huddersfield as the following games will be tough to acquire many points from.

I'll let a few others post their thoughts and then let you have mine.

The much desired cup run is very unlikely to happen under SD so that is one for the future imo. Any detraction or lack of focus in the prem from a club of our resources would spell certain disaster. We need to keep a close watch on our squad valuations to ensure no dramatic losses if we find ourselves out of this league. The numbers for a club like ours are staggering. The counter to what I am saying is evident by the clubs who have and have not made it into the prem in recent years.Crystal ball would be as good as an educated guess imo.

Stay in this league as long as possible... the money is good... ground and Gawthorpe improved... chance to see great teams and great players... if we go down no guarantee we will ever be back up again and the cycle of averageness and falling support begins all over again... para money runs out and back to scrimping and scraping and surviving... I'd rather see painful football in this division than painful football int Championship... we clawed our way into this division... lets stay in it

Very much still a socialist, when someone is on £170k a week and wants another £100k to kick a ba’ aboot per week it makes my blood boil..The establishment don’t give a XXXX where they get their money from as long as it’s from us plebs whether through PAYE or paying through the nose to pay millionaire footballers via Sky, BT etc.. Prince William president of the FA..ffs (and Katie, royal patron of the V and A), RIP off Britain yet again and the plebs are blind to it. When the Chinese start ruling football and the mega money chasing mercenaries f.off, there will be a big hole in the U.K. coffers, the BIG clubs will be playing in super leagues and the rest of us will be forgotten.

The Prem is not a fair competition - there's the top 6 and the rest. Maybe a couple of clubs might be fighting for 6th or a Europa spot, the rest, including us, are going to be fighting for survival year on year.

There was a lot of noise about our transfer dealings this summer, but I believe we did the right thing by not paying beyond our means. That means our struggle for survival may be harder than some others (see Fulham, Wolves). On the other hand, paying big fees and wages does not guarantee success.

We need to survive as long as we can and enjoy watching some top class football at t'Turf and make sure we have the right level of dry powder left for when the inevitable happens - and it will happen - because it's not a fair competition.

An F.A. Cup run would be nice as well...

So - stick in the prem, enjoy the benefits and have a cup run for me.

Ever the optimist Soapy. (Sm152)..I suppose it's better than being a pessimist like me though.. I can't see anything that gives me optimism at the moment..Even Dyche is starting to talk out of his @rse on the telly now..(Sm122)
