Player Ratings v Chelsea

Heaton 6 - Lucky to stay on the pitch, can't remember him doing much but pick the ball out of the back of the net.
Trippier 7 - I've seen a comment about him looking poor but I thought he did well, particularly in the second half when we started looking for a second.
Mee 6 - All over the place first half but played well in the second.
Shackell 5 - Very shaky.
Duff 8 - Fighting for his place? Absolutely superb, a man possessed.
Taylor 5 - Not the answer, get Kightly back in FFS.
Marney 6 - Both central midfielders guilty of giving the ball away then us not seeing it for 10 minutes, but he did OK overall.
Jones 6 - See Marney, but poor first half, much improved second.
Arfield 8* - This is not for the goal, he was superb all night, looked perfectly at home at this level!
Ings 7 - Very clever at times, but something doesn't seem right with him.
Jutkiewicz 6 - Not bad, not great.

Kightly 7 - Got to start v Swansea.
Barnes 6
Sordell 4 - Shite.

Probably my comment about Trips on your Face. I just thought he was nervous in the first half, was more like his old self in the second.

Sordell looked off the pace and his control was pretty shocking.

Heaton 6 surprisingly no other @#$%& to save bar the 3 goals
Tripps 6 not his best but some of his passing was good
Mee 6 tried to offer an outlet going forward
Shackell 5 sloppy at times not his best game
Duff 7 read the game well. Used his experience
Arfield 7 great goal, great shot, very dynamic
Taylor 6 didn't think he was as bad as some people say. Workmanlike if unspectacular
Jones 5 partially at fault for first with giving ball away
Marney 6 usual bustling self but unsurprisingly struggled against that midfield
Ings 6 kept trying hard maybe too hard. Dyche said he's a confidence player n he seems to have lost that in front of goal
Juke 7 thought he was excellent leading the line. Cahill n Terry didn't like being up against him.

Kightly 6 plenty of running but no end product in the time on pitch
Barnes 5 largely anonymous when on
Sordell 5 didn't have enough time to influence anything.

The fact we were able to create chances against a team of Chelsea's calibre gives me hope for rest of season.

Heaton, 6 Didn't seem as confident as he normally is last night.

Trippier, 6 Looked a bit out of his depth first half but got better.
Duff, 8 Excellent, looked more composed than he often did one division lower.
Shackell, 7 Not given the time he normally gets to bring the ball out of defence and got caught out a couple of times.
Mee, 6 Dragged all over the place first-half, looked more comfortable when Chelsea eased off after going two in front.

Arfield, 8 Chelsea never really got a grip of him, just getting better and better.
Marney, 7 Stuck at it, but never going to shine or dominate against that Chelsea midfield.
Jones, 7 As above.
Taylor, 6 Not much help to Mee, but picked out Arfield very nicely with the cross for the goal.

Ings, 6 Something not right, he's a mile off at the moment.
Juke, 7 A real handful, no idea why he was taken off, we're always more likely to score when he's on.

Kightly, as last season, ran around a lot, usually to no great effect.
Barnes, looks out of his depth in the PL to me.
Sordell, Looks way out of his depth in the PL to me.

Obviously I watched it on the Tele

Heaton 6 Do not blame hime for any of the goals. Was put under pressure by the defence in the first half with constant back passes. His distribution under pressure was gash.
Tripps 5 Looked totally out of his depth in the first half. Came too.
Mee 5 Was combative. Confidence grew in the second half.
Shackell 5 A tough lesson which he will have learnt from.
Duff 7 Solid. His experience shone through
Arfield 8 Our MOM. Great goal. Looked comfortable against one of the best teams.
Taylor 6 Thought he did OK. Nothing spectacular
Jones 5 Jones and Marney were over run in the first half. A reality check for them both.
Marney 6 See above. They will have easier days
Ings 6 Tried hard. Will come good.
Juke 7 A real plus. Looked comfortable against one of the best defences in the League

Shanghai I think those are spot on.

I don't agree with LC's comment about Heaton being lucky to stay on. From every angle his boot caught Heaton's shoulder when he could easily have skipped over him. I thought the ref got it right.

I think that several of our team were a tad overawed by the occasion and the opponents (Tripps, Ings and midfield in the first half) and by giving them too much room on receipt of the ball I reckon maybe SD will be kicking himself just a little. I doubt these issues will arise again against either Swansea or Man Utd.

Pretty much agree with Shanghai - but not on the penalty decision. I actually thought a booking was unfair, a penalty might have been harsh though as well.

Maybe a reality check for a few players but let's be honest, at worst we'll face another 3 or 4 teams close to that level - a good 12 are teams we can hope to compete with. Not saying we will win but we might get closer to them than we could Chelsea.

Heaton 6 Looked nervous at times, can't really fault him on the goals, his distribution especially in the first half was woeful at times,

Trippier 6 Didn't get the opportunities going forward as he normally does, looked a bit overawed with the class of opposition.

Duff 8 The best of our defenders looked quite assured at times, wasn't having any @#$%& footing around, got stuck in.

Shackell 6 His distribution at times was questionable, not as comfotable as he normally is but understandable at this level.

Mee 6 Biggest disappointment for me, he looked totally out of his depth with the pace of the game.

Arfield 9 Cracking goal, and was very confident, nothing seemed to phase him, he created them more problems than they did him.

Marney 6 Overshadowed by a great Chelsea midfield, lacked his normal grunt, looked off tyhe pace.

Jones 6 Same as Marney

Taylor 6 Not the best first appearance, to say he has been playing at this level, should have been brought on from the bench for me.

Ings 6 He dis OK when he had the ball, didn't get much service, needs to get a goal soon and get his confidence back.

Juke 6 Stood up to Terry well, made it known he was around, good frame, he will be a good asset going forward.

Just on Juke - yes he is a big lad but he's a much better player than I was expecting if I'm honest, assumed he'd be a lump - an upgraded Iwelumo if you will

Remember you telling me he was more 'rangy' (sp?) than a frame, L1882?

I would say he is stronger than Vokes....pacier too.

Yeah you don't listen LS, I was saying it after the Preston game he was a good replacement for Vokes.(Sm14)

He is one of those players that takes you by surprise though, looking at him you do assume he's just a big lump, but he can play.

That was my impression MH but I was way off - he's a big unit and gave Terry and Cahill a tough enough time - if that game is any measure we might saying Sam who by the end of the season.
